Every couple, family and friendship will experience conflict from time to time.

Healthy relationships aren't defined by the absence of disagreement but they're shaped by how people communicate, listen and repair afterwards.

Conflict doesn't have to drive us apart. With the right tools, it can become an opportunity to understand one another more deeply and strengthen the relationship.

We often tell ourselves we should be able to cope on our own.

That asking for help means we've failed, aren't strong enough, or should have all the answers.

But the truth is, reaching out takes courage.

Whether it's opening up to a friend, talking honestly with your partner, or taking the first step towards counselling, asking for support is an act of strength.

None of us are meant to navigate life's challenges alone. Sometimes, the strongest thing we can do is acknowledge that we need someone to walk alongside us for a while.

If you've been thinking about reaching out, perhaps this is your reminder.

πŸ’™ Support is there when you're ready.

Why therapists should understand shame.

As therapists, we often work with the behaviours our clients bring into the room, but what if those behaviours are protecting something much deeper?

Shame can influence the way people relate to themselves and others. It can shape intimacy, relationships, emotional regulation and even s*xual functioning. Yet shame often remains hidden beneath the presenting issue.

Shame Containment Theory (SCT), developed by Lisa Etherson, offers a new clinical framework for understanding how shame develops, how it is managed throughout life, and how it can present in therapeutic practice. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, SCT encourages us to explore the protective function that behaviours may serve.

Understanding shame can strengthen therapeutic relationships and open new possibilities for meaningful change.

If you'd like to explore this approach further, join us on 21 September for our 4-hour advanced CPD, Beyond Performance: Understanding Male Sexual Difficulties Through Shame Containment Theory, delivered by Lisa Etherson.

Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
