And that's a wrap!

The final webinar in our week-long series for Love your Burial Ground with Churches Count on Nature was on the range of wildlife to be found in our towns and cities including urban burial grounds.

From Stories to Share Hope through managing burial grounds as a home for butterflies and for lichens, to engaging children in the wildlife, built heritage and social history found in them, the webinars have been both inspiring and full of practical ideas.

There are still Nature Counts happening this weekend so visit our map at www.caringforgodsacre.org.uk/view/love-your-burial-ground-churches-count-on-nature-national-cemeteries-week-events-2026/ and select a county to find out what is on near you.

On Thursday 11th June the fourth webinar in our Churches Count on Nature series will look at why churchyards are such a significant habitat for lichens.

Register your FREE place at https://www.caringforgodsacre.org.uk/events/webinars/lichens-in-churchyards/ to receive a link to the webinar. If you are not able to attend in person you can catch up at a time to suit.

Of the over 2,000 British lichens, some 600 have been found growing on churchyard stone in lowland England. Many of these species are scare and some are rare in other habitats. Churches and churchyards are an environment which has not been subject to as much environmental change as elsewhere. Not only do lichens colonise surfaces of the stone, they can also be found on trees, wooden structures, benches and seats, grassy areas and pathways, and even on unusual structures like dustbin lids and metalwork.
