Today we remember 18 year old Rifleman Aaron Lincoln, of the 2nd Battalion, The Rifles who died as a result of injuries sustained during a patrol in Basra City, Iraq on Monday 2nd April 2007.

Rifleman Lincoln’s platoon was conducting a security patrol close to Basra Palace, a British Army base in Basra, when a gunman opened fire on part of the patrol. His team was tasked to conduct a follow-up onto the suspected firing point but, as the team attempted to gain access to the building, shots were fired from a different direction.

Rifleman Lincoln was hit by small arms fire and was immediately evacuated to Basra Palace and then to the field hospital at Basra Air Station for further medical treatment, but sadly he died of his injuries.

ASA Charity Representatives Attend the Houses of Parliament as Guests of Carla Lockhart MP.

Representatives of the Ancre Somme Association Charity (ASA) were honoured to visit the Houses of Parliament this week as guests of Carla Lockhart MP, who proudly serves as a UK Ambassador for the charity.

Attending the visit were ASA Charity Patron Lieutenant Colonel Ant Maher and ASA Charity Community Development Officer Lexi Davidson, who were warmly welcomed to Westminster by Ms Lockhart.

The visit provided an opportunity to highlight the ongoing work of the Ancre Somme Association and to discuss the charity’s commitment to remembrance, education, and community support.

During their time in Parliament, Lt Col Maher and Lexi Davidson met with parliamentary staff and guests while reflecting on the charity’s growing impact across communities.

The visit also recognised the strong partnership between ASA and Carla Lockhart MP, whose role as a UK Ambassador continues to help promote the charity’s mission both locally and nationally.

The Ancre Somme Association Charity works to preserve and promote the memory of those who served, facilitates support for veterans, families, and communities through education, remembrance initiatives, and community development programmes.

Speaking following the visit, Carla Lockhart MP said, β€œThe Ancre Somme Association’s work continues to make a meaningful difference by ensuring that the sacrifices of the past are remembered while communities are supported today."

The visit to Parliament marks another important step in strengthening the charity’s engagement with national leaders and partners, helping to further its mission of:

β€œRemembering the Past, Supporting the Present, Educating for the Future.”
