1851STEMCrew Our mission is to create the next generation of innovators through Sport Inspired Learning

We are an innovative education charity which excites young people about science, tech and engineering through sailing

The 1851 Trust and leading education programme STEM Crew are the Race for the Future Purpose Partner to the Great Britain SailGP team, with unrivalled access to the people, design and technological and sustinability developments behind this professional sailing team. Through a com

bination of educational resources, roadshows and activities, the 1851 Trust will demonstrate the relevance of STEM subjects to real life situations and the range of career opportunities available to young people who pursue STEM subjects, to inspire the next generation to become problem solvers of the future.

“Maybe this world is for me too”
Tiny sentence. Pretty big consequences.

Because once a young person starts seeing themselves as an engineer, scientist or problem-solver, futures can shift direction.

And the world needs more people ready to build what comes next.

More confidence. More possibility. More futures unlocked.

Stay with us as we take the mission further.

One event. Bigger ambition.

New York showed us what happens when young people are given space to experiment, collaborate, fail, retry and realise they’re capable of more than they thought.

Confidence got louder. Curiosity moved faster.

And futures? They shifted.
This is only the beginning.

Stay with us as we take the mission further.

Olympians. Sailors. Engineers. Data scientists.

Not your average school day.

Today at our first-ever US STEM Crew Live, students are meeting athletes from Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team and experts from Howden.

Turns out career advice hits a bit different at race pace.

More from NYC in our stories.

New country. Same mission.

This week, STEM Crew Live is coming to the US.

Coding challenges. Engineers. Technology behind one of the fastest sports on the planet. Because science feels a bit different when it involves boats travelling at slightly unreasonable speeds.

Turns out when learning feels real, futures start to feel real too.

The mission is going global.

For the first time ever, STEM Crew Live with Howden is landing in the US.

Turns out the future needs more engineers, scientists and problem-solvers.

Which feels like a pretty good reason to bring our mission to New York.

New city. Bigger mission. This is just the beginning.

Follow the journey!

Too many young people disconnect from science and maths before they ever get the chance to see where those subjects could take them.

That's a challenge we want to solve
STEM Crew LIVE launched its 2026 roadshow at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London - high-energy, hands-on experiences that connect young people with science, engineering and real careers through the power of sport.

London was the first leg. Our aim is to meet 1,500 young people across the UK this year.
This isn't the finish line. It's the next stage of the race.

What happens when you give students a real brief, a world-class sports team, and permission to solve big problems?

This isn't just a sailing team. It's a masterclass in sustainability.

Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team repair, reuse and redistribute — from high-performance technical boat parts to team kit. And now your students can do the same.

Our free KS3 DT lesson uses the team as a real-world circular economy case study. Students become Sustainability Managers, pitch ideas to Sir Ben Ainslie and rethink what 'waste' even means.

"Today has been really inspiring. We tried things we would never get to do in school and spoke to some amazing people, like Olympians."

Mia, Year 8, Sydney Russell School - and she said it better than we ever could.

STEM Crew LIVE came to London, 240 students from state schools in East London spent the day getting hands-on with the science of sailing, meeting Olympians, industry professionals, and discovering what's possible when curiosity meets ambition.

Thank you to Cobham Ultra and Trinity House for helping us bring it to life.

🌍 Happy 100th birthday, Sir David Attenborough.

A century of storytelling. A lifetime of advocating for nature. "Saving our planet is no longer a scientific challenge. It is also a communications challenge."

That's why we launched Use Your Voice — giving students the tools to tell their own climate action stories and inspiring a generation to speak up for the planet.

A survey by the 1851 Trust and found that 51% of children are worried about the planet's future, yet 70% of teachers don't feel equipped to teach climate change effectively. Young people are ready to act. We need to make sure they have the tools to do it.

The next generation has something to say. We're here to help them say it.
