Andrew Cassell Foundation

Andrew Cassell Foundation Based in Cowes, Isle of Wight I was thrilled at Helena Lucasโ€™s success at Weymouth when she won Gold in the 2.4.

Enabling individuals with disabilities and impairments to race competitively in sailing on an equal level playing field with and against able bodied sailors, in an inclusive and equal environment in all classes. "Winning a Paralympic sailing Gold Medal in Atlanta in 1996 was a magical moment for me but real magic is seeing the faces of all the disabled people who complete their first competitive r

ace, and appreciating their great joy in having achieved so much. Over the past 17 years the Foundation and sailing has brought me into contact with some amazing people with disabilities who have proved that even the most severe disability is no bar to competing at the highest level. Now with the RYA Coach, Matt Grier, the Foundation is supporting a project to find and train the next generation of Paralympic hopefuls. The first 15 competitors, including two blind sailors Lucy Hodges and Liam Cattermole, have already attended training weekends at the CCYC in Cowes. I am now looking to raise funds to expand this project. I would like to increase the fleet of Sonars and 2.4s, the single handed boat, and also to offer some personal support in the form of help with travel costs and clothing to those prospective Paralympic sailors who cannot yet access any other funding," Andy Cassell

A cracking day today with some of the team thrown right in the deep of their learning curves whilst others pushing themselves when not feeling 100%. Evidence proven! Being on the water fixes most things especially the mind. ๐Ÿ˜‰ step by step! ๐Ÿ˜

So proud of Angus today, getting stuck into prepping for a promotion stand on Sunday taking the lead by a storm. All whilst I (Matt) was using a sewing machine for the first time ever and yet very proud of the almost finished bag, I must never be about to touch a sewing machine again.

It almost visited the window until I accepted it had to be the user! ๐Ÿคช The plan is to leave it to the professional awesome volunteers who actually know what theyโ€™re doing.

At least mine can be used as an ACF rope bag! Great recycling!โ™ป๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜Š

A late night last night playing and learning for Mark and myself (Matt) 2 hours in and I canโ€™t believe what can be learnt. ๐Ÿ˜ is a fantastic teacher, calm and clear in his explanations even when knackered from making sails for us all day! ๐Ÿ˜ Clearly an expert in his field.

Just need to find more time to play before I forget what Iโ€™ve learnt.

More news to come soon but the sewing team have done a great job and starting to roll now! ๐Ÿ˜

A fantastic day yesterday, the sailing front started slow due to glassy conditions but the team kept busy learning how to check over the boats and the sails focusing on when problems arise, how to follow a line and try and solve a problem enabling them to keep racing.

On the water it was about team work and feeling comfortable in your role. The light building breeze was great for highlighting what we may knot know about and to work on.

Now best get back to it for another day! ๐Ÿ˜Š

What a team today! All working hard to get the boats clean and keep in top condition, preparing for some training tomorrow. Loving how much they enjoy and are starting to understand the importance of up-keeping the equipment.
