History of Stanswood Rescue
Stanswood Beach Rescue is situated at Calshot beach and has been operating for some 40 years. The unit began as a Lifesaving club based at the old swimming baths in Southampton. They were asked by Hampshire County Council to provide emergency cover for swimmers at Lepe. Its members first operated from a tent and then progressed to a former Civil Defence vehicle. A few y

ears later the unit was moved to Calshot beach and a wooden boathouse was built, followed by a permanent HQ which is our base today. This unit operates with a group of volunteer Beach Lifeguards, Boat crew and Shore crew, who provide cover for the beach and surrounding waters during the summer months, working alongside the HM Coastguard, RNLI and other SSRO units. Our primary role is to ensure the safety of people bathing or enjoying water sport activities in the sea. As well as providing Aquatic safety cover we also provide First Aid and Beach Safety advice to the members of the public who use the beach. The unit has a small compliment of rescue craft ranging from an Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) Rescue Paddle craft and also up to date Medical Equipment.
