CAS' Autumn Programme continues this week (October 27th) with a demonstration of landscape painting in oils by South Wales artist, Dawn Harries.

Dawn became a convert to plein air painting a few years back and tries to work outdoors whenever the weather allows. She says: 'I’ve found that it’s strengthened not just my observational skills, but also my relationship with the landscapes I paint, and has ultimately improved the level of my work and my composition decisions.'

As a reminder, CAS meets on Monday evenings between 7 and 9 pm in the rear function room of the Duke of Wellington, Cowbridge. Visitors are always welcome to attend our meetings for an entry fee of £5.

This Monday (Oct 20th), CAS is very much looking forward to another watercolour masterclass by one of its own members and also member of the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales, Vicki Washbourne.

Inspired by a recent visit to the Isle of Arran, Vicki's demonstration on this occasion will focus on the process of taking holiday snaps through to a finished painting.

The Society is very grateful to Vicki for agreeing to demonstrate, and is anticipating an engaging, entertaining and informative evening.

At next Monday's meeting on October 13th, CAS looks forward to welcoming back Cotswold landscape artist, Rupert Aker.

On this visit, he will demonstrate using oils and a palette knife to create an impressionist painting of a rural scene. Working quickly and directly from nature where possible, Rupert then goes on to complete larger pictures back in his studio.

Always entertaining and informative, Rupert's demonstration is one not to be missed.

The first demonstration of CAS' Autumn Programme will be held this Monday (September 29th) in the rear function room of the Duke of Wellington, Cowbridge.
We are pleased to welcome an artist new to CAS, Kate Broadhurst, who will be painting a woodland scene with flowers using watercolour and gouache.
Kate's work is best described in her own words:
'Much of my inspiration comes from my walks and explorations around South Wales and beyond. With a camera or paintbox in hand, I find endless inspiration in the play of light, colour, and detail that nature offers... I take my time with every piece, working slowly with careful layers of gouache and watercolour paint and my treasured collection of miniature brushes.'

Eleven local artists, including several CAS members, will have their work on display at Cowbridge Old Hall throughout September in an exhibition entitled Birds: A Celebration in Paint, Print and Glass.
This fabulous show dedicated solely to our feathered friends, is certainly worth a visit if you are a bird-lover, fan of wildlife art or just curious to see how this diverse group of painters, printmakers and a glass artist has gone about depicting them.

Cowbridge Art Society's summer programme ended last night with our AGM and annual art competition. The entries were judged by art lecturer, Morgan Haigh, who decided that a seascape by Penny Lloyd was the best in show. Well done Penny.

CAS resumes its activities at the end of September - call back here in a few weeks to find out what exciting events are planned for the autumn term.

As always, if you are interested in joining the society, information about membership can be found on the About section of this page.
