🏠 COULD WE REALLY END ROUGH SLEEPING FOR GOOD?
A major commitment has been made to end long-term rough sleeping — and here at Coventry Open Christmas, we absolutely welcome that ambition. ❤️
But if we are serious about ending homelessness, we have to understand one thing…
Homelessness is rarely just about needing a house.
Every Christmas, we open our doors 24 hours a day to people who have nowhere else to go.
Behind every person who walks through those doors is a story.
Mental health. Addiction. Domestic abuse. Relationship breakdown. Job loss. Financial hardship. Trauma.
Sometimes, it can be a combination of many of these things.
🏠 A roof is incredibly important — but a roof alone doesn’t always solve the reasons someone became homeless in the first place.
If we truly want to end rough sleeping, people need safe, permanent homes AND the right support to help them stay there.
That means government, councils, housing providers, mental health and addiction services, charities, faith groups and communities all working together.
At Coventry Open Christmas, we see what can happen when a community comes together.
We provide warmth, meals, emergency accommodation, practical support and something that can be just as important…
Someone who cares. Someone who listens. Somewhere you are welcome. ❤️
We firmly believe homelessness is a problem that can be solved — not something society should simply learn to accept.
Now we need to turn promises into action.
Because ultimately, our hope for the future is simple:
That one day, services like ours won’t be needed at all.
Until that day comes, our doors will continue to be open for those who need us most. ❤️
