Grubngabclub-Coventry Open Christmas

Grubngabclub-Coventry Open Christmas Coventry Open Christmas is a voluntary organisation managed by the "Grub & Gab" club. We are also a charity.

We provide shelter and food to the homeless and lonely over Christmas - and additional support such as 'pop-up' shelters during the year. During Christmas 1991 it was recognised by one of our founders that there was a real need for a shelter for the homeless who were arriving in Coventry simply to get a meal at Holy Trinity Church. The very next year the Coventry Open Christmas shelter opened its

doors for the very first time, as a ‘one night only’ project. This proved to be a roaring success and so much so that it has now grown from those very humble origins to a shelter that is now preparing to open its doors again this Christmas.

Please take a few minutes to read Peter's story. Peter Harvey

Instead of letting his own experiences define him, Peter is turning them into something positive by creating a recovery centre that will support people on their journey to rebuild their lives. It takes courage, determination and a huge heart to dedicate yourself to helping others who are struggling.

Projects like this don't just change one life—they can change countless lives, giving people hope, support and a safe place to recover.

If you're able to, please consider donating to help make Peter's vision a reality. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, brings him one step closer to opening a place that could make a real difference to so many people.

If you can't donate, please share this post. Together we can help turn an incredible idea into something that changes lives. ❤️

Iʼm raising money to Supporting the future of recovery for Peter Harvey. Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

🏠 COULD WE REALLY END ROUGH SLEEPING FOR GOOD?

A major commitment has been made to end long-term rough sleeping — and here at Coventry Open Christmas, we absolutely welcome that ambition. ❤️

But if we are serious about ending homelessness, we have to understand one thing…

Homelessness is rarely just about needing a house.

Every Christmas, we open our doors 24 hours a day to people who have nowhere else to go.

Behind every person who walks through those doors is a story.

Mental health. Addiction. Domestic abuse. Relationship breakdown. Job loss. Financial hardship. Trauma.

Sometimes, it can be a combination of many of these things.

🏠 A roof is incredibly important — but a roof alone doesn’t always solve the reasons someone became homeless in the first place.

If we truly want to end rough sleeping, people need safe, permanent homes AND the right support to help them stay there.

That means government, councils, housing providers, mental health and addiction services, charities, faith groups and communities all working together.

At Coventry Open Christmas, we see what can happen when a community comes together.

We provide warmth, meals, emergency accommodation, practical support and something that can be just as important…

Someone who cares. Someone who listens. Somewhere you are welcome. ❤️

We firmly believe homelessness is a problem that can be solved — not something society should simply learn to accept.

Now we need to turn promises into action.

Because ultimately, our hope for the future is simple:

That one day, services like ours won’t be needed at all.

Until that day comes, our doors will continue to be open for those who need us most. ❤️

✨ PLEASE SHARE — the more people talking about homelessness, the harder it becomes to ignore. ✨
