Heat Alert for Coventry

With temperatures reaching 33°C today, it’s important to take extra care in the heat, especially for older adults, children, and anyone with underlying health conditions.

💧 Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water throughout the day
🧢 Avoid direct sun during the hottest hours (11am–3pm)
🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains and opening windows later in the evening
👕 Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
🚫 Never leave children or pets in parked cars
🤝 Check in on vulnerable friends, family, and neighbours

If you feel dizzy, sick, or unusually tired, move somewhere cool, drink water, and seek medical advice if symptoms worsen.

Please stay safe and look after one another during the hot weather

There have been accidental overdoses and deaths across the UK linked to drugs mixed with Nitazenes.

Nitazenes are man-made opioids that can be hundreds of times stronger than he**in and as powerful as fentanyl. They have been found not only in he**in, but also in drugs like benzos and fake pills.

The dangerous part is that contaminated drugs can look exactly the same as normal ones.

If you choose to use drugs, here are some ways to reduce the risks:

• Go low and slow: start with a much smaller amount than usual and wait before taking more

• Never use alone: having someone with you could save your life

• Don’t mix drugs or alcohol: mixing substances greatly increases the risk of overdose

• Watch out for your friends: signs of overdose include trouble breathing, passing out, blurred vision, weakness, or slurred speech

• Carry naloxone if possible: extra doses may be needed for Nitazene overdoses

• Safely get rid of unused pills or powders at a pharmacy or amnesty bin

Last month the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) moved legacy benefits (tax credits, jobseekers allowance etc) over to Universal Credit. As a result, some people living in England who used to receive free prescriptions will now have to pay.

This means some people who are prescribed by our services may need to pay for their prescriptions and may not know it.

If you are picking up a prescription and are unsure if you’re eligible for support, ask the pharmacy staff for help. You can also ask for a FP57 receipt and refund form. This will allow you to claim a refund at a later date if you are entitled.

Find out if you’re eligible for support with healthcare costs via the NHS Low Income Support Scheme:

Harm Reduction Day is a chance to remind people how they can make safer choices without facing stigma or discrimination. This Harm Reduction Day, we want to share information and advice on synthetic substances.

Synthetic substances can be much stronger than fentanyl but may look the same as other drugs. They have led to a steep increase in accidental overdoses and deaths. If you plan on using drugs, use this information to help keep yourself and your friends as safe as possible:

-️ Go low and slow: start with a quarter hit of a new supply and wait to see the effects

- Don’t use alone: Make sure someone you trust is present and has a couple of naloxone kits to hand

- If using with others it's best if only one person uses the drug first and uses a smaller dose, waiting for the peak effects to pass

- Don't mix drugs: Using more than one drug increases your risk of overdose, this includes mixing with alcohol

- Look after your friends: Look out for the signs of an overdose, e.g. loss of consciousness, shallow or absent breathing, ‘snoring’ or loud ‘rasping’, and/or blue or grey lips or fingertips

- Call for an ambulance immediately if someone overdoses and give them naloxone

- Ask for nitazene testing strips at your nearest Change Grow Live service

You can learn more about synthetic opioids on our website:
www.changegrowlive.org/advice-info/drugs/nitazenes or come and speak to us for more information about staying safe.

We can also provide Naloxone kits and help you to cut down or quit if you’d like to. Call us on 02476 010 241 or [email protected] and someone will be in touch.

04/05/2026

As Coventry City fans come together this May 4th to celebrate, it’s important to look out for one another and stay safe.

Mixing substances, like alcohol and co***ne is extremely dangerous. When combined, they create a toxic chemical called cocaethylene, which greatly increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, liver damage, brain damage, and sudden death.

This combination can also intensify effects, leading to poor judgment and risky behaviour. The strain on your heart, liver, and kidneys is significantly higher, and the long-term impact can include addiction and serious mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression.

If you’re planning on enjoying the celebrations, please keep yourself and others around you safe. Remember to start low and keep hydrated.

If you’d like to learn more about support for yourself or someone you care about, please visit the link in our bio, call us on 024 7601 0241 or email [email protected] and a member of our team will be in touch.
