Good morning guys!

Did you know that 783 million people still do not have access to clean and safe water?

This leads to serious issues: worldwide, 1 out of every 5 deaths of children under 5 is due to a water related disease.

This is especially the case in Africa and Asia. To deal with that terrible reality, Watly conceived a module purifying water, delivering electricty and providing internet connection thanks to solar energy.

This idea could improve daily lives and lead poor populations towards economic development; clean water, electricity and the internet are the first steps to that achievement.

Meet Warwick Genesis - Aksh*ta Gupta

Good morning guys !

My name is Aksh*ta Gupta and I am currently 19 years old. I am Indian and currently study Accounting and Finance at the University of Warwick.

Who I am
I have grown up in a small hill station in India. The beauty of the town always drove me towards nature. I always enjoyed going with my grandmother for walks and always observing different things. As time passed by the small town grew bigger and today if I look back into my childhood days I miss the scenic beauty.

Source of inspiration
I joined various projects aiming to clean and reserve the greenery of the town. I also love helping the aged and the poor. I worked at a physiotherapy center for senior citizens where I realized that helping them gave me so much happiness and joy. I also am part of the Rotary Club which organizes blood camps, cleanliness drives etc to help the society at large.

My aim
Besides this growing up in a business family, finance is something which I love studying and want to pursue a career in. I am currently studying Accounting and Finance at the University of Warwick. Before coming to the university I participated in various finance projects in school which helped me realize my inclination towards this field. My aim is to become a CFO of a multinational company.

Why Warwick Genesis
I think being a person who is interested in the finance field and who loves working for nature Warwick Genesis seemed to be the ideal society of which I wanted to be a part of. It would really be amazing if I could provide any sort of help to people who could open their own social enterprise. I have performed many team tasks and I believe that my enthusiasm and determination to work towards the society will motivate young entrepreneurs to build their own social enterprise.

Please contact us in there is anything you need to know,
All the best,
Aksh*ta Gupta

Good morning guys!
In order to make the best of your week end, I found something for you to look up: the Radical Grandma Collective.

This organisation was created by a group of dedicated women in Na Nong B**g, in North Thailand. It manufactures hand-made scarves to fund their fight against the contamination of water a gold mine operates. This industrial site is harmful to both its environment and the inhabitants living nearby as it releases cyanide in the surrounding streams and rivers. Do not hesitate to buy their products being both qualitative and trendy !

Happy Monday everyone!

Today we'd like to introduce you to FieldWorks

"FieldWorks was founded by a couple of humanitarian aid workers who were tired of being part of a system that prioritises the needs and aspirations of donors over those of the communities which they purport to serve. Their mission is to promote an alternative vision for supporting aid initiatives by amplifying the potential of good grassroots organisations that truly represent and act on behalf of their community. We aim to create a trust-centred ecosystem that connects empowered grassroots organisations to equitably access the resources of a global movement that believes in locally led sustainable social change."

Meet Warwick Genesis - Prachi Agarwal

Hello everyone!

My name is Prachi Agarwal and I am currently studying Accounting and Finance at The University of Warwick. I am an 18-year-old Indian. I grew up in Germany and Canada and shifted back home at the age of 12. Yet again, after 6 years, I left India to come to the UK to pursue my undergraduate studies.

Who I am
Living in various parts of the world has helped me realise and see things in a very different light. I believe the diversity that I have grown up in has played a major role in shaping me to be the person I am today. This has aided me in becoming more open minded and empathetic as a human being, which I believe is very essential in today’s time.

Source of inspiration
Watching my dad come home every single day after 9pm, working so hard to support us, that’s what drives me. Not once has he complained about his long hours, instead, he is willing to work even longer if that means we’ll smile more. I want to work just as hard as him and follow his work ethic, because I strongly feel that he has got it right. I hope to work for a large investment bank in the future and I hope that one day I can make it to the top level of management. The path to achieving this goal of mine is by studying Accounting and Finance. Finance has always been a great interest of mine and I knew that if I had to study a subject for the next 3 years, it should be something that I enjoy studying.

Why Warwick Genesis
Apart from the studying aspect at university, I was excited to become a part of societies as they play a crucial role in the university life. I chose Warwick Genesis as this was something different. It is not a society, but a social enterprise, something we need more of today. We need more organisations that are taking action and actually making a difference, and Warwick Genesis does that. I wanted to be a part of this because I want to be able to help people directly and make a difference to even a few lives.

I also think that my motivation to help people will allow me to think more openly and not restrict myself in any way. This will help me explore opportunities not only for myself but also for Warwick Genesis, which could lead to many new ideas and aspects of Warwick Genesis to be developed. I want to be a part of the journey of Warwick Genesis and see it grow to what it can be.

See you soon with Warwick Genesis,

Prachi Agarwal

Good afternoon!

On this cloudy afternoon, here is a very inspiring social enterprise: Tours for Humanity.
It was created by a couple living in Washington DC: Lisa Maurer and Bo Hammond.

All began when Lisa recovered from a violent cancer. This dramatic experience convinced them to start a social business proposing tours around DC. A proportion of the profits earned go to charities fighting cancer such as the American Cancer Society.

Harvard Business Review explores the benefits of failure as long as it is analysed. This article may relate to everyone of us !

We are programmed at an early age to think that failure is bad. That belief prevents organizations from effectively learning from their missteps.
