Coventry Philharmonic Choir

Coventry Philharmonic Choir Welcome to the official page of The Coventry Philharmonic Choir.

The Coventry Philharmonic Choir currently has approximately 90 members ranging in age between 17 and 80. Under the inspiring and knowledgeable direction of David Wynne the choir, which is non-audition, continues to attract members to all sections – soprano, alto, tenor and bass – of the choir. Several times a year we give concerts that offer a unique opportunity to hear nationally famous soloists

and music played by full orchestras and chamber music groups playing traditional musical instruments. In addition, smaller groups perform, for example, at weddings or local fetes, or to support charitable causes. The Choir promotes local musicians and soloists and encourages young singers and instrumentalists, and in the last few years, two of our younger members have won choral scholarships to Cambridge University.

Hot off the press!

The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, by Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins, was voted the most popular work in the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2026.

Nearly 90,000 public votes were cast in this year's chart, with the new number one revealed by presenter Dan Walker on Easter Monday.

Dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo War, the 82-year-old's choral work from 2000 reflects on the devastation of conflict while expressing hope for peace.

The Armed Man was originally commissioned in 1998 by various bodies as a mass to mark the millennium, said Sir Karl, adding that it had been performed "globally" 4,000 times since 2000.

Over the years, Sir Karl said many people have told him how the piece has supported them through difficult times.

"It's still as relevant today, the message, as it was 25 years ago," he said. "It's moved a lot of people.

We're looking forward to performing this moving choral work this coming Saturday in Leamington Spa. We hope to see you there.

Sir Karl Jenkins is the first living composer to top the Classic FM Hall of Fame with mass for peace.

All our invited to a memorial concert for Seb Farrell, who tragically died last year. The concert, Seb Farrell: A Celebration! will take place at Butterworth Hall, Warwick Arts Centre on Sunday 3rd May.

We have treasured memories of Seb who led our training choir, Coventry Philharmonic Singers, when it was established, and was also highly supportive of our main Coventry Philharmonic Choir, as well as leading and supporting a number of musical groups across Coventry and Warwickshire.
