🎨🎬 Artists and creatives — what’s your take on British Art Show 10?

Has an artwork stayed with you, sparked a question or made you see something differently? We’d love to hear your response!

Create an Instagram reel of up to two minutes exploring BAS10 and its States of Nature theme, which considers our interconnected relationship with the natural world.

✨️ You could focus on one artwork or artist, reflect on the exhibition as a whole, or perhaps explore connections with your own creative practice.

Post your reel and tag Coventry Artspace and Coventry Art Show so that we can find your entry. Each month in November, December and January, we’ll choose two favourite reels. Each creator will receive £25, and we’ll share both reels on our account.

📅 Entry deadlines: To be considered for a cash prize in November, post your reels by 31st October.

✨️We're delighted to announce that artist, archivist, and writer Tarla Patel will run our first artist-led Last Wednesday workshop

🌿 This free workshop responds to the BAS10 States of Nature theme by exploring how we reflect on and engage with our surroundings, using zines to explore connections or reimagine a new era.

📒 A zine is a small, self‑made booklet you can create quickly and easily without staples or specialist tools. Through collage, making and journaling, you will create a zine that makes you think about how you feel, what you see, smell and touch.

✨️ Excited to welcome Dresden artist Reinhard Pontius to our first BAS10 First Thursday event at The Priory Visitors Centre.

A treat for all Coventry-based artists, especially those working in sculpture.

Many of you will be familiar with the PVC as a brilliant space for artists to exhibit, experiment and collaborate, but if you haven't been before, it's a must!

💬 Excellent discussion about creative space and an Artspace programme of artist development and opportunities.

We shared the outcomes of our creative spaces survey from earlier in the year (soon to be published on our website), which is still shaping our thinking about artist workspace in the city.

✨️We're so pleased to be a part of the Coventry Art Show programme supporting British Art Show 10.

📍Our activities will respond to the States of Nature Strand of the programe, led by Talking Birds and we'll be kicking off on 8th October at The Priory Visitor Centre with the first in a series of 5 First Thursday EVENING meetings held at different creative and community venues around the city.

At each event there will be a contribution from an artist, curator or arts leader in response to the States of Nature theme.

Very excited that the first artist contributor will be the inspirational Dresden based sculptor Reinhard Pontius , who is resident in the city as part of the States of Nature strand activities.

👀 Have you been wondering what’s become of Coventry Artspace now that we’ve left Eaton House? We may not be running studios at the moment, but we’ve been busy making plans about ways to keep Coventry’s visual arts community alive and kicking.

📍Come and regroup at our temporary space, at Unit 2, (the old Spon Gate Pub), at the Skydome, Croft Road and share your ideas for a new nomadic version of Coventry Artspace.

✨️ Coventry Artspace studio holders, friends and supporters, we need your help!

🏠 We are in the final phase of our exit from Eaton House and have a lot of usable furniture that we can't store and haven't been able to donate. Chucking stuff in skips is expensive and wasteful and we don't want to do it!

We have tables, drawers, chairs, sofas, shelves and whiteboards that you can come and take away for free from the 4th Floor at Eaton House, CV1 2FJ at the following times:

Friday 24th 2.00-6.00

Please email us, [email protected] or text 07975623806 if you are coming to pick something up, or to take a look at what there is. There may not be anyone there if we haven’t received any messages.

🚗 Please note that you will need to be able to remove items yourselves. There is some parking at the bottom of Eaton House and also at Central Six opposite.

Please share this widely, and in particular, with community centres, schools and anywhere that may use these resources.

✨️ Unfortunately July's First Thursday event won't be going ahead. Rachel Doughty Rachel Doughty has done a superhuman job of clearing Floor 4 and Floor 11 of Eaton House and unsurprisingly she needs a rest!

A huge thanks also to Bengy Speer, Jonny Nicholds and Anne Forgan for all their amazing support with the move.

📅 The next First Thursday will be after the Summer break on the 3rd September, when we will have news of Artspace's next steps. Hope to see you then!

Our friends over at Talking Birds and Mothers Who Make - Coventry Hub are hosting An ‘After Session’ with Hettie Judah hosted at The Nest, Coventry, CV1 4DQ on Monday 29th June, 6-8pm!

Join them for an informal, intimate, early evening event built around art, conversation and community. The session will open with short presentations from four local artists, each of whom will share their recent and current work.

Hettie Judah will then take a seat at the centre for an open, hour-long conversation, taking questions about the art world, about her work, about navigating a creative life. Bring whatever’s on your mind.

Afterwards, stay for refreshments and a chat. Hettie will also be selling and signing copies of her new book, How to Enter the Art World …After — a myth-busting guide for artists whose lives are complicated and human.

Hettie Judah is a writer and curator. She is a regular contributor to The Guardian, Frieze and The Times Literary Supplement, and writes a monthly column for Apollo magazine. Between 2016 and 2024 she was the chief art critic for the British daily newspaper The i. She was the curator of the acclaimed Hayward Gallery touring exhibition Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood.

We're busy now with the final stage of our move and will update you on our future plans when we get to take a breath!
