❄️ Is your home Winter Ready? 🏑

Preparing your home before the colder weather sets in can help keep you warm, improve your heating efficiency, and reduce energy costs.

Here are a few simple things you can do:
βœ… Bleed your radiators.
βœ… Make sure your boiler is serviced and up to date.
βœ… Set your heating timers and thermostat.
βœ… Move furniture away from radiators to allow heat to circulate.
βœ… Fit radiator foil to help reflect heat back into the room.
βœ… Use draught excluders around windows and doors to keep the warmth in.

Need advice on keeping your home warm or support with your energy bills?

🌿 A very special day for our fundraising team πŸ’š

Yesterday our fundraising team were invited to one of our wonderful carer’s gardens as a special thank you and what a beautiful day it was!

We were delighted to spend time with Alec and his mum. Alec a full-time carer for his mum told us more about his caring journey, his garden and the difference being part of our community has made to him.

Alec shared β€œI wanted to invite Fiona and the Carers Trust team to my garden as a thank you for everything they have done over the years. I’m a full-time carer for my mum, who escaped domestic violence and now suffers from PTSD. As a full-time carer, I needed something to occupy my mind, so I joined the National Garden Scheme to give something back to different charities. I met Fiona when she was our guest speaker at our last event, and we chatted afterwards about my mum and my caring role.

β€œAfter that, I was invited to St James’s Palace to meet Princess Anne alongside many other famous faces. It was such a surreal experience - a real β€˜pinch me, is this real?’ moment! I’m very grateful to Fiona and everyone at Carers Trust who enabled us to have that day. Having that consistent communication with Fiona also helped with my own anxiety about taking Mum away for the night.”

Fiona said:

β€œIt was wonderful to be invited over to Tysoe to visit Alec’s garden today. It was truly beautiful and so peaceful. Thank you to Alec for making us feel so welcome, and for the lovely gift bag of homemade treats!”

We are so grateful to Alec for opening his garden to us and sharing his story. πŸ’š

It was a wonderful reminder of the incredible strength, generosity and resilience of unpaid carers - and the importance of having somewhere, and someone, to turn to.

Thank you, Alec, for such a special afternoon.
