We do this through our expert-led training, providing equipment to maternity and neonatal teams, and national research. Baby Lifeline is a unique national charity which promotes the safe care of pregnant women and newborn babies all over the UK and worldwide. It does this by supporting and working with NHS professionals โ€“ buying equipment, developing and providing critical training, and conducting research.

Today is World Pre-Eclampsia Day ๐Ÿ’™

Pre-eclampsia is a condition that can affect women and birthing people in pregnancy. Though it can be mild, it can also be a serious condition affecting both mother and baby.

Pre-eclampsia usually develops after 20 weeks of pregnancy or shortly after birth. Most will make a full recovery, but knowing the signs and seeking help early can make a lifesaving difference.

Throughout your pregnancy, your midwife will check your blood pressure and urine for signs of pre-eclampsia. However, if you experience severe headaches, vision changes, swelling, pain below the ribs, or simply feel that something isnโ€™t right, contact your maternity team, 111 or โ€“ if your symptoms are extreme โ€“ 999 immediately.

At Baby Lifeline, we are committed to improving maternity safety through education, awareness and training, helping families and healthcare professionals recognise the importance of early detection and listening to concerns.

This Global Accessibility Awareness Day, weโ€™re shining a spotlight on one of last yearโ€™s UK MUM Awards winners, the Digital Midwives team, and their incredible work helping to tackle digital exclusion in maternity care.

The project was led by Grace Murray at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working alongside the Good Things Foundation on the project. The team established maternity digital hubs across England to support women and birthing people who may face barriers accessing vital digital services and information.

By providing free data, devices and support, this initiative is helping more women access electronic patient records and essential online maternity resources, creating a more inclusive and equitable healthcare experience for all.

Do you know a team or individual making a difference to maternity or neonatal care?
