As of today, June 9 sadly the AIMS service will come to an end. Through face to face service delivery the AIMS project has supported many young people to overcome risk of school exclusion, isolation and exploitation. The contacts I’ve made have enabled increased well-being and inclusion of those young people through innovative and comprehensive support.

The service legacy is manifest in feedback recorded on the website from service users and their families. The achievements of the young people who accessed service are a source of pride for them and us. Read more on our website article, www.coventrycyrenians.co.uk/news

Hi. I hope you’re keeping Ok and looking after yourself and your friends and family. AIMS has continued to support as best as possible the young people and families who were looking for help and has been signposting to services and their new ways of providing resources. AIMS has been giving emotional support through having contact and discussing these times and by helping in purchasing art resources and providing counselling. Practical help has been delivered through working out ways to provide bedroom furniture for example, and thanks must go to my manager and the finance department at Cyrenians in making this happen, along with parents and young people finding the time to communicate how this is done, despite the obstacles to this. I have admired how people have joined in working with AIMS and Cyrenians in looking past these difficult daily problems and in being so responsive to contact from AIMS. Thanks should also go to school professionals in their help and regular contact in helping keep people safe and well. Keep on keeping on everyone. All the best, Phil.

Cyrenians were fortunate in that a piece of research AIMS had wanted to conduct coincided with a dissertation to be written by Mizbah Iqbal, a Birmingham University student. After a lot of discussion and preparation the study interviewed in May and June 2019 young people previously and currently supported by AIMS. This was done with approval of the ethics committee and followed GDPR legislation and all young people reported a positive experience and found Mizbah to be a kind and empathetic researcher. The findings from the research have been added here, along with Mizbah’s own words about the process. Many thanks to all those involved – young people, family members, school staff, Cyrenians staff, etc, who all played a key role in making the research a success.
