The Enterprise Club for Disabled People works to improve the quality of life of disabled people in Coventry and the surrounding area, through providing or assisting with the provision of facilities for recreation and leisure time occupation. The club, based in Avon Street,Stoke,Coventry,is open five days and six evenings every week offering a wide range of services, including Day Care,a Sports Gro
up, a Handicraft Group, Social Evenings and Lunch and Theatre Excursions. The main aim of the charity’s work is to reduce the feeling of loneliness and isolation often experienced by disabled people and to improve self-esteem. With a 79-year record of providing opportunities for people with a wide range of disabilities to participate in physical activity and sport, the club now has a membership of over 150. The majority of the activities provided are of therapeutic value to members and make a huge contribution to improving their quality of life. The Management Committee has to raise over £90,000 each year to fund the general running costs of the charity, the most expensive element being the Transport Service. The club owns three adapted mini buses and at the present time the purchase price of a new vehicle is £35,000. Additional fund raising activities have to be organised to generate the funding needed to purchase the vehicles.
