Good News

I have today spoken to WCC highways about Bubbenhall Bridge, and have received the following response.

The works to repair the collision damage to Bubbenhall Bridge are complete, and the road was supposed to have been reopened last weekend. Apologies if this hasn't happened and for the unnecessary disruption this may have caused. I will take this up with our contractor and arrange for the closure and diversion signs to be removed as soon as possible.

Please see below information regarding the Government's consultation on Local Government Reorganisation in Warwickshire.

Government consultation on Local Government Reorganisation in Warwickshire launches and will run for seven weeks.
The government has launched a consultation to invite residents, businesses, and key stakeholders, to have their say as part of the consultation on what Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) should look like in Warwickshire.
Currently, Warwickshire has two-tiers of local government, Warwickshire County Council as one tier and five District and Borough Councils - North Warwickshire Borough, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough, Rugby Borough, Stratford and Warwick District Councils as the second tier.
Local government reorganisation (LGR) is planned for Warwickshire because central government has set out a national policy to reorganise the current two-tier system of local government in England to one tier, and Warwickshire is one of the areas affected by that policy.
In line with the Local Authority Publicity Code, the councils are not promoting or advocating for any option within the consultation. The consultation is being led by Government, which is seeking views on the options that have been put forward.
The Government is only consulting on whether residents would prefer one unitary council for Warwickshire, or separate north and south unitary councils.
How to take part
If you would like to share your views on Local Government Reorganisation in Warwickshire, the easiest way to take part is to provide your feedback through the online survey.
The consultation is open from Thursday, 5 February, until Thursday, 26 March.
Alternatively, paper copies will be available from:
Main council office reception areas
Libraries operated by Warwickshire County Council
Council-operated Museums
Paper copies can also be requested by calling 01926 410 410
Your responses to the questions can then be submitted by email to [email protected].
Written responses can also be sent to:
LGR Consultation
Fry Building 2NE
Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government
2 Marsham Street
London
SW1P 4DF
If completing a paper copy of the consultation form, please make it clear which consultation you are responding to.

Bubbenhall Bridge Repairs Update

Warwick County Council have provided the following update on the ongoing works at Bubbenhall Bridge and associated road closure.
The repairs to the section of stone parapet wall that was displaced in a road traffic collision is nearing completion and the stone masons expect to have this aspect of the repairs complete before the Christmas break. The extent of this work has increased as the works have progressed after the finding that the outside elevation of the stonework was in a worse condition than expected, once it was accessible from the scaffold.

While the works have been taking place on site, we have also identified a safety critical defect at the north-east corner of the bridge. The whole east elevation has a slight and historic lean, which is more pronounced at the ends of the parapet wall. The south-east section of this is being monitored and remains stable but the north-east has been found to be unstable and at risk of failure. As a result, the section of stonework highlighted below is going to be taken down, reconstructed and stabilised in the New Year. Unfortunately, this means the road closure will need to remain in place until the end of January, to allow sufficient working space and for the safety of the workforce and motorists. Access to pedestrians, cyclists and equestrian users will be maintained throughout the remainder of the repair works.
