The Coventry Irish Society are always proud to support Dame Goodyvers Daye, an important date in Coventry’s calendar.

This year, we will be meeting by the Lady Godiva statue in Broadgate, central Coventry on Friday 11 September 2026, at 9.45 am, ready to join Coventry’s official Lady Godiva for the procession starting at 10.00 am in Broadgate, followed by a community picnic.

It will be a wonderful opportunity to wear Irish colours and join our friends and neighbours from across the city.

We hope that you can also stay for the community picnic after the procession (please do bring your own refreshments)

Exciting news coming soon on our new premises!

In the meantime, we will be closed for operations between Monday 24 August 2026 and Friday 4 September 2026.

We will be unable to reply to communications during this time, or offer appointments, as all resources will be focused on our moving arrangements. We thank you all for your support and understanding, and we look forward to being with you shortly. An announcement on our next move will follow shortly.

Congratulations to all Finalists of the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Make A Difference Award. So many wonderful people doing wonderful things in the region.

We’re delighted to see Rhys Davies named as a Finalist. Rhys does so much to support the local , and our charity. We’re proud to have worked closely with Rhys for many years on various important initiatives, from working with him in his voluntary role on Coventry Lord Mayor’s Peace Committee, to working with him in his professional role as a teacher at Cardinal Newman, raising awareness of the importance of the Good Friday Agreement with the next generation, and sharing Irish culture and heritage. Above all, he is a thoroughly good person and he thoroughly deserves this fantastic recognition. Well done, Rhys! 👏

Rhys Davies is one of the BBC CWR Make a Difference finalists for the Environmental award due to his inspiring work he's doing in building the Peace Orchard, encouraging all those around to keep the legacy of peace in the city going.

Ba mhaith linn ár mbuíochas ó chroí a ghabhail le hÓrfhlaith Nic Bhriain, Leas Ceann Mhisean.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Orla McBreen, Deputy Head of Mission at Irish Embassy London for her significant support, particularly to our Midlands Irish Survivors Service & the Irish language network.

Orla’s impact has helped to strengthen our charity and will be long lasting. As she moves to her new role, as the Irish Ambassador to Ukraine, we wish her the very best and would like to share a few of the key highlights of her work with us, from her visits to Coventry, to welcoming us to community events at the Irish Embassy London, including the first Official Visit to Britain by President Catherine Connolly.

Earlier this year, Orla joined the then Coventry Lord Mayor, Rachel Lancaster, at our Introduction to An Ghaeilge, which saw 450 school children at Christ The King Primary School joining a zoom call with their partner gaelscoil in our twin city of Cork, after learning basic Irish language and about the value of international friendship. The children were delighted to learn some Irish from the Deputy Ambassador herself.

In May, this year, our Caroline Brogan was invited to a meeting with Uachtarán na hÉireann / President of Ireland Catherine Connolly, chaired by Orla, in Irish.

Our hearts are sore to learn of the passing of our beautiful friend, Sarah Stansfield.

Sarah always brought so much joy and kindness with her. She gave so much to the Coventry Irish Society, volunteering significant time to provide vital office and administrative support, and fundraising by making beautiful Irish gifts, including bows and knitwear.

Sarah will be dearly missed and we send our deepest condolences and love to her family and friends.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam. 🕯️

Our heartfelt thanks & very best wishes to Kate O’Sullivan, Third Secretary, Irish Community & Culture at Irish Embassy London.

Kate has been a wonderful advocate and good friend to Irish community organisations across Britain. We are grateful to Kate for all she has done, over many years, to improve the lives of those in our community. We have worked closely with Kate on a number of important initiatives, including the Ambassador’s official visit to the Coventry Irish Society in 2024, and with Kate and her colleague, Kelly O’Connor, to host the Peace Heroines Exhibition, in Coventry, in 2025.

Our very best wishes to Kate as her assignment in London draws to a close and she moves to Ethiopia for her next role.

We are incredibly grateful to Ambassador Martin Fraser & Deirdre Fraser for the significant support they have given to the Irish Diaspora. It has been a joy and privilege to work so closely with them over the past four years.

We were honoured to host the Ambassador at the Coventry Irish Society when he opened our Mo Mowlam Library, in 2024 (pic included in the Irish Embassy London album below).

They will be dearly missed, and from everyone at the Coventry Irish Society we wish them well with their next chapter.
