Pony of the Week - Smudge
"20 year old Smudge took his 9 year old owner, Evelyn, to the Barrier Animal Health Spring Festival at Addington Equestrian Centre in March, having secured qualifications in both Dressage and Show Jumping. The pair had a fantastic time representing the Lamerton Hunt in what proved to be just the first of FOUR national/regional championship appearances for Smudge this year, in an incredible four different disciplines and with no fewer than four different riders!"
"In August, Evelyn lent Smudge to fellow Lamerton Member and tetrathlete, Mia, whose immaculate 1400-point ride in the Stepping Stones Tetrathlon competition at The Pony Club Championships made her National Champion! Smudge went on to compete at the Mini Championships at Bicton in Show Jumping later in the same month, with not one, but two fellow Lamerton Hunt Members - Evelyn’s younger sister, Ada, and friend, Emily. At the end of August, a now 10 year old Evelyn herself resumed the ride on Smudge for the NAF Regional Championships at Bicton, this time in Eventing - as one of the very youngest competitors! She and Smudge had a super day and a great spin around the Bicton Cross-Country course, doing themselves thoroughly proud."
"Smudge’s ‘day job’ is as a driving pony for Evelyn’s great-grandfather, so for him to be able to turn his hoof to so many ridden disciplines at both regional and national level, too, is nothing short of incredible. A true pony of a lifetime and a living legend here at the Lamerton Hunt, we are hugely proud of Smudge, his riders, and his very generous owner, Evelyn."
