Working with charities since 2019 to find sustainable solutions to fuel poverty. Cadent operates across some of the most disadvantaged areas in the country.

The Cadent Foundation was established as a Donor Advised fund in July 2019, funded from a share of the profits of Cadent Gas, the country’s largest gas distribution network. In fact, eight out of the top ten most deprived local authority districts in England are situated within Cadent’s network. This means that millions of people are facing daily struggles due to low income, inadequate housing and barriers to accessing support services. As a utility company, Cadent is uniquely placed to see the real-life impact fuel poverty and low energy efficiency has on the people in our communities. The Cadent Foundation was set up to help play a part in addressing these inequalities. The Cadent Foundation has been working with charities and partners since 2019. Our aim is to help households find sustainable solutions to fuel poverty and ensure people are safe and warm in their homes. By working with charitable organisations we strive to help households improve their financial wellbeing and become more energy efficient through advice, support and practical measures. The Cadent Foundation is administered by Charities Trust (Charity Registration No: 327489) who we work with to manage the grant giving and ensure that all funds donated by the Foundation are only used to further charitable purposes for the public benefit.

❣️ Yesterday Guv from our team, alongisde some of the Cadent IT team, volunteered to support our Central Community Fund charity The Myton Hospices in the launch of their new Bed Appeal. This included pushing a hospital bed a few miles from the hospice site to Warwick town centre!

This new, urgent appeal aims to raise £327,000 to fund three more beds for 12 months, so more local people and their families can receive the specialist hospice care they need. Currently all beds cannot be made available due to funding.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 We are proud to be involved and will continue our efforts to support Myton Hospice and remember our colleagues who have been cared for there.

Yesterday we visited our partner Housing Plus Group at one of their residential sites in Telford, where the team were hosting a 'Bring your Bill' session. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏾

💡 This session focussed on helping residents to understand their energy bill, check their current tarriff and ensure they're paying for actual energy use. From this they were offered an Energy MOT which goes further to look at their energy use in their home and offer advice on how they can manage it more effectively, to help lower their energy bills.

We won! 🏆🏆

At the Charity Times Awards last night we were very proud to win the Charity Collaboration of the Year with Groundwork for our Stay Warm, Stay Well programme. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

The entry focussed on how together, over six years, we have built a national model for community resilience. At a time when millions of households continue to face fuel insecurity, the partnership is improving lives, strengthening communities and helping shape a more effective national response to fuel poverty.

❣️ Together, the partnership has supported more than 20,000 households across 140+ local authority areas, installed over 90,000 energy-saving measures, distributed more than 25,000 Warm Packs and generated annual household savings of more than £2.1m.

Through our investment the Stay Warm, Stay Well ‘Innovation Fund’ project has helped make homes healthier.

One of these initiatives was focused on tackling damp, mould and condensation – a problem that affects both people’s homes and their wellbeing.

Groundwork Green Doctors assessed properties, conducted damp surveys, and delivered tailored reports to manage issues and prevent recurrence.

By combining expert insight with personalised support, the project helped create safer and healthier homes, with 93% of beneficiaries reporting that the intervention had a positive impact on their general health and wellbeing, and 79% of beneficiaries reporting that being informed about energy, damp, mould, and condensation helped improve related health issues.

Our Stay Warm, Stay Well ‘Innovation Fund’ offered by Groundwork Green Doctors, has enabled more people to benefit from bespoke energy support to stay healthier, save money and better understand new energy-saving technologies.

The initiative is part of the wider advice support - energy advisors who install energy saving measures, tackle causes of damp, mould and condensation and provide advice on billing and fuel debt.

Energy advice should be accessible to all.

By working with Groundwork on the Stay Warm, Stay Well programme they have trialled different approaches to targeted intervention.

Through our Innovation Fund, Groundwork Yorkshire delivered ESOL energy advice sessions across West Yorkshire, providing accessible, bilingual energy advice models that broke down isolating language barriers and enabled attendees to receive further support in their own homes.

Following an ESOL session and a Green Doctor visit, beneficiary Rakhmit said, “I feel much more in control now. Thank you for taking the time to explain everything to me… I know what to do with my bills, I have people I can ask if I need help.”
