Cadent Foundation

Cadent Foundation Working with charities since 2019 to find sustainable solutions to fuel poverty. Cadent operates across some of the most disadvantaged areas in the country.

The Cadent Foundation was established as a Donor Advised fund in July 2019, funded from a share of the profits of Cadent Gas, the country’s largest gas distribution network. In fact, eight out of the top ten most deprived local authority districts in England are situated within Cadent’s network. This means that millions of people are facing daily struggles due to low income, inadequate housing and

barriers to accessing support services. As a utility company, Cadent is uniquely placed to see the real-life impact fuel poverty and low energy efficiency has on the people in our communities. The Cadent Foundation was set up to help play a part in addressing these inequalities. The Cadent Foundation has been working with charities and partners since 2019. Our aim is to help households find sustainable solutions to fuel poverty and ensure people are safe and warm in their homes. By working with charitable organisations we strive to help households improve their financial wellbeing and become more energy efficient through advice, support and practical measures. The Cadent Foundation is administered by Charities Trust (Charity Registration No: 327489) who we work with to manage the grant giving and ensure that all funds donated by the Foundation are only used to further charitable purposes for the public benefit.

Our partner Housing Plus Group have been getting coverage of their energy MOTs having saved their residents a combined total of Β£8,500!

πŸ’‘ What does an energy MOT entail?

πŸ’š Personal support from the Energy Advice team
πŸ’š Guidance on reducing bills through tariffs and energy use insights
πŸ’š Low-cost energy-saving measures tailored to each household
πŸ’š Practical in-home advice to help residents make energy saving changes.

The energy MOTs are just one way the Money Matters team supports older residents, many of whom are on fixed incomes and can be particularly affected by rising living costs.

This week, we've been with the Citizens Advice Liverpool team, who explained the the work they are doing to support the local community in tackling fuel poverty 🀝

We met with the Cadent Foundation energy case worker, and had the opportunity to listen to a client call to understand the daily conversations around energy use, managing bills and maximising income.

It was inspiring to see first-hand how this funding is making a real impact in Liverpool πŸ’‘ Find out more about our work with Citizens Advice πŸ‘‰πŸ» https://orlo.uk/jD1e1

⭐ As our project with Energy Projects Plus comes to an end we want to acknowledge their incredible work and what we have achieved together on their Warmth 4 Health programme.

Based in Cheshire and Merseyside, they have found a clear, direct link between poor performing homes and health impacts on vulnerable people. Working with local NHS Trusts and public health teams, the project took an innovative approach of linking health sector patient data with property data to create a target group to whom support was offered.

These households were offered expert, impartial energy efficiency and damp & mould assessments which led to improvement measures to the home living conditions, and therefore the health and wellbeing of the residents. This is backed up by a 10% reduction in GP appointments following the targeted advice and support.

Our Warmth 4 Health project closed at the end of March 2026, having provided energy advice to 1,855 residents, with 962 of them going on to receive an in-home advice session.

Shane had trouble keeping on top of his energy bills.

But this all improved hugely after some help from the energy caseworker, Kevin, at his local Citizens Advice St Helens. Not only did Kevin help to check Shane's energy tariffs and provide tips on managing energy use at home, he also provided support to clear his energy debt and maximise his income so Shane could start afresh and manage his energy bills each month.

Shane is now in control of his energy bills and feels more calm and confident as a result - watch his story.

🏑 Hope 4U will conduct home visits to help ensure properties are warm, safe and energy efficient.
