Holly has been working on Shakespeare's "The Tempest" with EGO Academy, learning how to perform moments from the play with movement, not using any words.

“Today I learnt how to be Prospero. I did something with my group (me, Kyle, Reece-Lee, Declan and Tegs). We worked on how to Prospero is very magical and they had to copy me, like in the beginning of The Tempest, where the ship rocks with the big storm happening. I was the puppet master, like Prospero, controlling them.”

Alter EGO is our ensemble for young neurodivergent people aged 14 to 23. First founded in 2013, Alter EGO specialises in devising original pieces from the ground up, allowing our members to build confidence in their creativity and develop new skills. Since bringing their very first show, The Critic, to life, they have created many side-splitting productions, including Stupid Cupid and Operation C.R.A.S.H.

Many of our members have gone on to join our Creative Academy, continuing to build on the skills and confidence they first discovered in Alter EGO.

Alter EGO are still going strong and meet every Wednesday evening!

Recently, to help devise their next production, we asked our Super EGO members to research their own family history in relation to World War Two. Charlotte shared a poem written by her dad about his grandad’s experience of the war. What a fascinating piece of history.

Our Academy enjoyed Perfect Show for Rachel at the Oxford Playhouse last week. A truly life-affirming and unique show by the amazing Zoo Co.Theatre, it challenged theatre norms while creating something joyful, funny and completely unpredictable. The show is built around the enigmatic, theatre-loving Rachel, who has a learning disability, and is created on her own terms, making every performance different and full of heart.
