FORMAL NOTIFICATION:

As Sahara Coventry Ltd is now dissolved as a charity, their former website and Facebook accounts have now returned back under full control of their creator, and so going forward from today will no longer represent Sahara Coventry Ltd in any official capacity whatsoever.

In other words, anything posted on this account from today onwards will be done so in my capacity as a private citizen, and as someone who is NO LONGER subject to any control, coercion or threats from anyone connected to the former charity Sahara Coventry Ltd.

Unfortunately, I spoke too soon...The Chairperson of Sahara Coventry Ltd. has threatened me with legal action less than 24 hours after I wrote the above post. Shameful action considering that she is not only the Chair of a local charity but also a Coventry City Counsellor.

It is with great regret that as from July 31st 2024 Sahara Coventry Ltd will be permanently closing down.

The Trustees have decided that keeping the charity open is no longer a viable option and so after faithfully supporting our clients for the last 30 years, we can no longer continue to do so.

All the staff and volunteers at Sahara would like to express our deepest apologies and regrets to our clients and friends for this unfortunate situation and hope that you can find the support you may need elsewhere.

It has been our honour and privilege to serve the people of Coventry in our small way and we will be forever grateful to everyone who helped build, grow and support Sahara throughout our long history.

We hope to see all our friends at the Memorial event tomorrow starting from 1pm. We will be spending a good couple of hours chatting, singing and sharing memories of our beloved Harbans.

We hope to make it a fitting tribute to her love of life, people and family.

NOTICE TO ALL SAHARA COVENTRY LTD. CLIENTS:
Effective immediately, our Hasmukh Group is now cancelled and will now longer be held on Mondays.

There will be a Memorial Event hosted by the former friends and work colleagues of our beloved Harbans Kaur Riat, who sadly passed away 5 years ago next month. This event will be held upstairs at the Methodist Central Hall, Warwick Lane, CV1 2HA, on Friday July 5th from 1pm onwards.

Anyone who knew her and would like to express their appreciation of her, or condolences to her family & friends, are welcome to attend.

If you wish, you will be able to stand up and say a few words about her or just share your experiences and memories with other people who also knew her.

The event is intended to be a celebration of her life, to recognise how many people she helped, supported and brought peace and joy to over the many, many years that she was with Sahara.

If you do wish to attend, it would be greatly appreciated if you could please confirm via email, text or Facebook message.

We had a great time at the recent Community Alternatives Marketplace event held at One Friargate on May 28th. There were so many different and varied organisations present that networking with them was not only very useful, but also very interesting.

Mae and Simon did a great job of organising and hosting the event and we look forward to attending future events with them.

In July this year, we will be hosting a memorial to the memory of Harbans Riat who sadly left us 5 years ago. If you would like to share your memories of her, pass on a story or even give a speech about her or take part in any other way, then please contact us here at Sahara Coventry.

We know that over the many, many years that Harbans worked with Sahara, she touched the lives and hearts of many people.

So please join us in helping to keep her memory alive in all our hearts. Thanks.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, our office will be closed from Monday 15th April to Friday 20th April.

We will, however, be open as usual commencing Monday 22nd April.
