The Peace Orchard

The Peace Orchard The Peace Orchard is a beautiful space in Coundon Hall Park Coventry created by WW11veteran Dennis Davison.

He was a great advocate for peace and loved traditional orchards in both UK and in Normandy France where he lived for many years.

More damage to our notice boards...someone with a sharp objrct scratched into the perspex. We only just had these installed and its the second time in a month vandals have targetted us. Sad as we work so hard to share the Peace Orchard as a haven for all and its entirely voluntary.

A lovely workshop for children as a fore runner to our Festival!

Its so upsetting to see a newly installed noticeboard at The Peace Orchard has been vandalised.

We welcome creativity at the Orchard, but not graffiti such as this as its simply vandalism. It damages a place that exists to help people connect with nature, wellbeing and each other.

The noticeboards have taken months of planning, research and design, and cost a significant amount to produce. As a small charity, we simply dont have the resources to keep repairing damage caused by thoughtless acts like this.

Sadly, this isnt the first time. We have previously had our mural damagaed , fences burnt, signs set on fire, benches covered in graffiti and spent countless hours cleaning and repairing the site. Every hour spent fixing vandalism is time taken away from creating opportunities for the community.

Rather than letting this discourage me however Im asking for help.

Does anyone have experience of applying anti-graffiti coatings to timber noticeboards, or removing permanent marker from perspex?
If you could lend a hand, or can offer advice, materials or expertise, please get in touch.

I know we are a community who cares for the Peace Orchard and Coundon Hall Park...and this is a much stronger message than those who choose to damage it.

Thank you to the majority of folks for your continued support.

Our new raised beds are ready... but they need your help!

Please feel free to come along and add something to the planting, which is looking a little bare at the moment. It would be wonderful to see the beds filled with herbs, vegetables and edible flowers that we have all contributed to, cared for and can share together.

Dennis (who created The Peace Orchard ) loved growing from seed. Like his father before him, he found pleasure in nurturing vegetables and herbs and sharing them with family and neighbours. It feels fitting that these raised beds continue that tradition of growing, generosity and community.

Our next project is harvesting rainwater. We would love to create a simple collection system behind Dennis's bench, with a small roof, guttering and a water butt to collect rain for watering the raised beds.

If you have ideas for how we might design it, spare materials we could use, or would like to get involved in building it, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Donations of materials, skills or time would all be very gratefully received.
