The Peace Orchard

The Peace Orchard The Peace Orchard is a beautiful space in Coundon Hall Park Coventry created by WW11veteran Dennis Davison.

He was a great advocate for peace and loved traditional orchards in both UK and in Normandy France where he lived for many years.

Hedgerows are so important!

To understand what we want from hedges in the future, it’s important to look at their long and rich history. 🌳 We’ve had hedges in the UK since the bronze ages and many of our existing hedges are truly ancient habitats.

The annual Peace Picnic has been running since 2016 and is hosted every year by the fabulous students from Cardinal Newman Catholic School Cov. A big thank you to Coventry Urban Rangers, the school and all the staff for organising too!

The students gather together to recognise the anniversary of D Day 1944 and to celebrate peace in their own very joyful way. Expect open mic impromptu performances, student stalls, ice cream and hot dogs and lots of games!

We are so proud to be part of their day and welcome everyone to bring a picnic and take part. West Midlands Deputy Lieutenant David Moorcroft MBE will be joining us and opening the picnic.

We had a fantastic seed planting session with Jyan from Groundwork West Midlands at the Coventry Peace Orchard yesterday and it felt like it was far more than a simple activity.

As adults, many of us have become strangely disconnected from the systems that sustain everyday life — food, soil, water, seasons, biodiversity, even patience itself.

Supermarkets stay full, deliveries arrive, taps run, and we rarely stop to think how fragile and interconnected those systems really are. But the continuing oil crisis demonstrates we are living in uncertain times particularly when you think about food production and sourcing. We also have rising climate instability, hotter summers, pressure on water supplies, volatile energy costs and growing uncertainty about how sustainable our current way of living actually is.

What struck me yesterday was how grounding it felt to slow down and reconnect with something tangible. Seeds, soil, conversation, shared learning, practical knowledge.

The sessions themselves are not about pretending we can all become self-sufficient overnight. They are about rebuilding confidence, curiosity and community. Learning together. Remembering how things grow and uderstanding local ecology.

In a culture dominated by speed, distraction and endless consumption, there is something quietly radical about people gathering together to plant seeds.

So come and join us at our next session at The Peace Orchard on June 17th further details TBA.

Blossom alert at The Peace Orchard!!

These pics were taken on Tues morning showing our small but mighty dwarf apple trees bursting into bloom. Its a really special moment in the year and a beautiful time to visit while it lasts.
This Sunday, 3rd May, we’re also hosting a free Spring Photography Workshop, giving you the chance to explore the orchard and capture the blossom on camera.
Come along, slow down, and see the orchard through a different lens.

Sad to say the People’s Bench at the Peace Orchard has been damaged. It may not look like much at first glance, but most of the edging has been pulled off, so it will need sanding down and some careful repair.

Are there any woodwork wizards out there who might be able to help us restore it?

It would be lovely to bring it back properly — it’s such an important part of the Peace Orchard space.
