Three days into our Free School Uniform Pop-Up and we’ve already received some messages that have reminded us exactly why we do this.
Thousands of items of uniform are leaving our pop-up with local families — but what we’re really giving away is a little less worry about September.
One parent told us:
“This support has made a real difference to my family. Being able to get school uniforms, shoes and other clothing has taken away a financial worry and helped us feel more prepared for the new school year.”
Another said:
“It has really helped me as a single mum, and I am so grateful for Clothing Coventry helping us out. What an amazing charity.”
And this message was particularly lovely to receive:
“I was on my own with 3 children, one in a pushchair, and my eldest child is autistic. She made sure the boys listened and were comfortable with the items they received. It made it a lot easier for me with her help.”
That last message is for one of our wonderful volunteers — but really, this whole post is for all of them.
Every person who has given up a morning or afternoon to sort clothes, find sizes, hunt for the right jumper, help a child try on shoes, reassure a parent, restock rails or simply make a family feel welcome: this is the difference you are making.
You might finish a shift feeling like you’ve just handed out a lot of polo shirts and trousers.
But to the families coming through our doors, you’ve helped take away a financial worry. You’ve made a stressful day easier. You’ve helped children feel comfortable and confident. And you’ve helped families start September a little more prepared.
We genuinely couldn’t do this without you.
Thank you to every single volunteer who has joined us so far — and to everyone still coming over the next few weeks. You’re doing something pretty special.
And to the families who have taken the time to send us such lovely messages: thank you. It means more than you know.
