The Redheughers

For forty odd years the Redheughers have played,
With fiddles and boxes, a fine racket they've made!
Then Rachael Hales calls,
“Now swing round the hall!”
And somehow the chaos becomes a parade!

Yes I know, I know..it was Joey Oliver doing a brilliant job at guest calling last night but come on, I can’t not use Rachael’s name in Redheughers first limerick can I 😊

An enormous thank you to all our dancing guests and the brilliant David De La Haye for making us sound brilliant.

We are looking forward to a great ceilidh on Tuesday 13th October at Gateshead Masonic Hall with fantastic guest caller Joey Oliver

Doors open 6.30pm for 7pm start.

All dances will be fully called and explained by Joey, and accompanied by live music from the Redheughers Ceilidh Band

Well, what a great afternoon we had playing for Equal Arts and their guests from Blenheim Court and further afield at Newcastle Libraries on October 1st. It was lovely to see some seated ceilidh dancing which we think will definitely catch on. Big thanks to Aaron and the team for making it happen. Another fabulous Equal Arts & Redheughers day with lots of smiling faces 😁

Your chance to dance!

Tomorrow at Newcastle Libraries we are delighted to be playing for an age-friendly ceilidh, with all dances adapted to be accessible for all ages.

We're also really looking forward to catching up with our friends from Blenheim Court, who'll be coming along to showcase the latest work they've been doing in developing adapted ceilidh dancing with Equal Arts

Head up to the Bewick Hall on Level 2 of Newcastle City Library from 1.45pm for fantastic live music, dancing, and lots laughter 😍

We had a great time last night at our weekly rehearsal preparing the tunes we're planning to play, and the band is sounding fantastic - even if we say so ourselves!!! 😆

The reason why we’re one of the WORLDS longest running ceilidh bands? 🤔….oh yeah, I remember, it’s because we’re really good. Oh come on, let us brag a little, you know we’re normally modest 😂

Join us Tuesday, September 8th - 7.00pm - 9.30pm at Gateshead Masonic Hall, Bensham for our fabulous monthly ceilidh with the amazing Redheughers Ceilidh band. We provide the live music, you provide the laughs, dance moves and chaos (we like a little bit of chaos).

Over two and a half hours all the dance instructions will be expertly called by our resident callers Rachael Hales - musician & caller, Robin Dunn and from September the odd dance will be called by members of the band...woooooooaaah I hear you cry. There are dances suitable for all levels and you are GUARANTEED lots of fun. There are plenty of breaks and plenty of time to visit the licensed bar.

So, put it in your diary and come along from 6.30pm.

We've been doing it for exactly 40 years you know and we're really, really good at it! 😁

Actually that’s around 5700 dances called and 18,000 tunes played and I reckon that means about 15,000 of the tunes have been Robin’s 😂

Occasionally us Redheughers play a tune between dances and this tune called Kathleen Ling, who is the mam of Gerry from the band, is beautiful and was very worthy of a stand alone performance at our last ceilidh.

If you wait until the end you’ll see a couple who just could not resist the temptation to dance and make an appearance in the video 😂

Our next ceilidh is on August 11th at Gateshead Masonic Hall in Bensham. 7pm - 9.30pm

Johan Strauss Snr would have been proud. We have no idea if his tune would have been danced to in this way but the smiles would have been just the same.

Robin Dunn choreographed a brand new dance last night that he had written and after some brain cells being challenged in the practice run 😂 all’s well that ended well.

Keep an eye open here for a new version which will be even more Robiner, Redheugherer & Strausser 😁
