And our professional training is educating teachers, GPs, social workers, and others who work with children, about the issues, so that we can look out for young p

Over 70% of young people caring for a parent keep their situation a secret from their friends.

Growing up is hard enough, but navigating the challenges of a parent's mental illness in total isolation makes it so much heavier.

Fear of stigma, worry, and judgment shouldn't force young carers to hide a huge part of their lives.

At Our Time, we work to build a world where no young person feels invisible or has to carry this weight alone. We want every family to feel safe, heard, and supported.

Today is , a reminder of how important it is to slow down and protect our mental well-being.

For young carers and families navigating complex mental health challenges, stress management is an essential tool.

If you’re finding it hard to relax, mindfulness and breathing exercises can help you to feel more in control of your thoughts and feelings. Taking slow, deep breaths, taking on one task at a time, and being kind to your own mind can help you to feel calmer.

Taking a moment for yourself can make a world of difference.

‘’It would make me exhausted, I just couldn't have a day where I wasn't thinking about something and I’d feel it in my body.’’

In this episode, James Longman joined us to discuss his experience growing up with anxiety and his father’s schizophrenia and su***de.

When a young person lives with parental mental illness, the impact is not just emotional. The constant worry, hyper vigilance, and pressure to keep everything together can take a heavy physical toll.

As Mental Health Awareness Week comes to an end, our work to support children and families continues.

For the 1 in 3 children in the UK living with a parent with a mental illness, support is needed all year round. That’s why we continue to provide our KidsTime Workshops.

KidsTime Workshops are monthly group sessions for families where a parent has mental health problems. They offer a safe, supportive space for children and parents to learn, play, talk and enjoy time together without shame or blame.

"I chose to give my pain a purpose and create something positive from an unfortunate situation."

As we continue Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re sharing a powerful story of resilience from professional boxer and Our Time ambassador, Cyrus Pattison.

Growing up, Cyrus was a young carer for his mum. He found his medicine in boxing, but he knows that for the 1 in 3 children in the UK living with parental mental illness, having an impartial voice to trust is a real catalyst for change.

At Our Time, we take action by providing safe, supportive spaces where families can break the silence together.

Today marks the start of Mental Health Awareness Week 2026.

This year’s theme is all about taking action, and we’re asking you to join us in taking action for positive mental health for yourself, for someone else, and for all.

At Our Time, we take action in many ways. One being through our KidsTime Workshops. We provide a safe, supportive space for families where a parent has mental health problems. By talking openly and breaking the silence, we ensure no child feels alone.

How you can take action today ⬇️

✨ For Yourself: Reach out and start a conversation with someone you feel comfortable with. Sharing your experiences can reduce the weight of any challenges you’re going through.
✨ For Someone Else: Check in on a family member or a young person you know. A simple "how are you?" can foster the connection they need.
✨ For All: Support our work to help us reach more families, ensuring no parent, and no child, faces these challenges alone.

"KidsTime was the first place where my questions were actually answered. It was the first time my mum’s illness was finally given a name...I wasn’t the odd one out anymore."

This is the heart of our KidsTime Workshops. We provide families a safe, supportive space to talk openly about mental illness together. They help build understanding, reduce fear, and connect families where a parent is living with a mental health problem so no one feels alone.

Our workshops give children the language they need to make sense of their experiences and realise they aren't "the odd one out.’’

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day.

We know that when a parent has a mental health problem, it can impact the whole family. Children and young people may take on responsibilities, feel anxious, or struggle to understand what’s happening.

This doesn’t mean someone isn’t a good parent, it means the right support matters. By breaking the stigma and encouraging open, honest conversations, we ensure that no mother has to feel invisible and no child has to feel alone.

Join us and follow along as we continue our work to ensure no parent and no child faces these challenges alone.
