Maurice over-seeing the final KCWCG production of hand washing stations for our 2021 Masks for Kenya programme. These will be delivered to Schools across Western Kenya to help keep children and staff safe in the new term. We are planning to scale up the production of these stations and create youth employment as part of the WASH+ programme.

Great to know there is a network of people who care about Crowned Cranes - these are a flagship species: healthy cranes, healthy wetlands, healthy communities!

These are Grey Crowned Crane chicks, The Uganda's National Bird. Did you know this species is endangered? Stop illegal trade and Conserve wetlands to mitigate their extinction.

You can do something about it!

Maurice planting 150 flowering trees around Kitale Town with young people affected by COVID crisis. Great publicity through local radio interviews. Highlighted the negative impacts of COVID on mental well-being and personal conflict. Our partnership support of Peace Advocacy through Rotary Digital Bridges will aim to address some of these issues. More details to come soon.

Photos from Maurice’s deliveries this week from our Masks for Kenya appeal to both CBM Secondary and Primary schools for the physically disabled. This includes the hand washing stations designed and built locally, which were also delivered to St Anthony School for the Deaf. So far, we have spent less than £3000, so plenty more schools still to go.

The other piece of heartwarming news from Maurice was that the tailoring cooperative making the masks in Eldoret, on learning that these first deliveries were going to children with disabilities, spontaneously offered to make each child three masks for the price of two - and this is what we have delivered.

We have taken the decision to spend some of the money on buying a welding kit in order that we can take full control of the remaining hand washing station manufacturing - this will involve training up local young people and generate sales beyond the Masks for Kenya funding.

Maurice has received the first consignment of the specially commissioned masks and these will be delivered to St Anthony School for the Deaf this week. Breaking news. These are images of the huge Africa Water Bank rainwater harvesting tanks we are proposing to build around the Saiwa Swamp Wetland ecosystem in collaboration with KCWCG and Rotary International. Phase 1 of our joint plan with Barnard Castle and Kitale Rotary Clubs will see four of these tanks being installed, along with wider WASH sanitation facilities. The longer term plan is to install up to 13 tanks in 6 communities right round the Wetland, massively reducing environmental impact of water extraction and massively reducing waterborne disease.
