Chippenham & Corsham Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs This page is run by the Chippenham & Corsham Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs, who are volunteers.

Guide Dogs receives less than 1% government funding - they rely mainly on public donations. We are a local fundraising group raising money required to breed and train Guide Dogs and to help people with sight loss to live the life they choose.

Ever wanted to meet a guide dog puppy in training? 🐶 Join us at The Pound for an evening with the guide dogs, a special fundraising event and talk with Guide Dogs UK.

Join George, a puppy trainer, to hear about the life of a Guide Dog. From training programmes, through to starting life as a working dog, George will share the joys and challenges of preparing puppies to take on this important responsibility.

Suitable for all ages.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers in Wiltshire, who recently held a fantastic ‘meet and greet’ event at the Science and Innovation Park near Swindon! 🐾

The Park, a former RAF airfield, is home to hundreds of thousands of historic objects from the Science Museum Group Collection.

Staff at the Park enjoyed chatting with our volunteers, meeting guide dogs and adorable puppies, and learning more about our work — including hearing from Sarah, a guide dog owner, with her guide dog Ribble. 🦮

The event was also a great fundraising success, raising nearly £300 through donations and merchandise sales.

Thank you to everyone who came along, supported the event and helped spread the word about the difference guide dogs make every day! 💛

Our group will be at the Neston Fete today (Saturday) on the recreation ground with our usual stall with tombolas, doggy lucky dip and other goodies. Sadly our 4 legged volunteers with be resting at home due to the high temperatures forecasted but pop along and say hello!

A huge thanks to everyone who entered our dog show in aid of Guide Dogs UK at the Corsham Summer Fete yesterday. We had over 100 entries and raised over £500 on our stand including donations. Thank you also to Corsham Town Council who supplied the rosettes.
Best in Show was 4 year old long haired German Shepherd Kelsey who had been rescued from the war in Ukraine and travelled through Europe before finding her forever home in Wiltshire.

Did you know that the first British guide dogs were German shepherds?

From the first German shepherds partnership, to our newest one, these canines have always made great companions for people with sight loss.

They are generally described as intelligent, loyal, courageous, athletic, and have a love of learning, which has earned them a valued role as guide dogs.

In 1931 two amazing women, Muriel Crooke and Rosamund Bond, organised the training of the first four British guide dogs from a humble lock up garage in Wallasey, Merseyside. The impact was immediate, and within three years The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association was formed. 💛

To this day we still breed and train German shepherds to form life-changing partnerships that help people with sight loss live the life they choose.
