Don't touch your phone while driving.

Drivers, if you're involved in a crash where someone dies, the police will carry out a forensic investigation on your phone and find every detail of activity in the moments leading up to the collision.

The “hump” on a humpback bridge creates a vertical curve, when negotiated at at inappropriate speed vehicles can feel light over the crest and tyres may briefly lose full contact with the road. This reduces steering control and braking effectiveness, which can result in a collision with the bridge or another road user who is present that you may not have seen.

Good drivers don’t assume it’s clear and approach at a speed that lets them stop within the distance they can see.

Poor driving behaviour which leads to poor decision making is the most common contributing factor in a crash. This bridge in North Warwickshire has seen a large number of collisions over the years due to driver error.

Drivers are often guilty of failing to anticipate the hazard, by not treating the bridge as a blind spot, assuming the road is clear, cutting across the centre lane on approach and failing to anticipate the sharp right hand bend, often leaving the road and ending up in the field.

Look for advanced warning signs and road marking - they alert you to the hazard ahead. Slow down and be prepared to stop. Keep to the left and brake, steer and accelerate away smoothly.
