The hand-over of Education First Foundation's donation for Typhoon Yolanda survivors...it was handed over to the Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. c/o KKP Xavier University and Sagip Kapamilya of the ABS-CBN Foundation. We agree that water is decidedly the most fundamental requirement and there's little doubt that such support will be required over many weeks. Clearly this disaster has caused very long term damage in so many ways and help will be needed over a prolonged period and we shall do what we can to help. We shall be very grateful for any assistance you can extend to support what Education First Foundation is able to do. Please visit our website at http://www.eff-charity.org/ for the full background of our charity and the different ways to send in your donations.

2,000 containers of 6 litres bottled water have been purchased today for P 101,000 in total. This will be handed over to Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (The Official) tomorrow at their Relief Operation Centre located at Xavier University here in Cagayan de Oro City. Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit corporate foundation registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission on September 1988. Its aim is to develop and implement projects on education, enterprise development, primary health and child care, corporate donations, and environment. It is very much in congruent with Education First Foundation's commitment to address social and economic needs of less privileged communities. Hence, we entrusted them to allocate our donations properly as they have hundreds of volunteers already on the ground. The collection and hand-over will be tomorrow and will be posting photographs of the hand-over which will also be place on our website.

This exciting programme brings school children from opposite sides of the world together. With their different cultures and backgrounds and by getting to know each other in an educational and directly helpful way, this opens a whole new world of understanding. What better way for enhancing direct knowledge and learning about the schools, pupils and way of life and being helpful at the same time. The programme has both set and variable elements including: a.) Details about the school, its pupils and facilities. b.) Photo album of school and geographic setting. c.) Exchange of emails / letters. d.) Details of economic and social background. The adopting school has the additional opportunity to help by modest fund raising to assist in providing school materials and seeing fully how these provisions are used and helping thoughout the school year.

Cagayan de Oro City, Southern Philippines – In response to the clamor for help of survivors of Typhoon Sendong (Washi) that struck Cagayan de Oro City last December, the Education First Foundation (EFF) once again extended a helping hand to those in need. According to EFF Board of Trustee member Anna Asiñero, the foundation gave out school supplies, clothing and slippers to hundreds of schoolchildren affected by Sendong in different villages of the city. Asiñero said they also distributed mosquito nets and boxes of bottled water to the children’s families displaced by Sendong. EFF also contributed to the effort of well-meaning groups and individuals in helping the youngsters cope with their traumatic experiences during Sendong. At the South City Central School in the suburban village of Nazareth, EFF donated school materials and pairs of footwear to the more than 300 pupils during the psychosocial processing activity last Jan. 18 conducted by Lourdes College High School (LCHS) alumni batch ’88 and Xavier University (XU) faculty and students. Asiñero said EFF did not hesitate to help out the kids whose house, belongings and even loved ones were lost when flashfloods brought by Sendong devastated the Northern Mindanao cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. “Our heart goes out to these children, most especially those who are displaced and are having difficulties with their studies due to what happened to them,” Asiñero, the overseer of the EFF operations in the Philippines, said. Asiñero says she is thankful that cause-oriented organizations like the members of the LCHS batch ‘88, the XU community and Save CDO Movement have worked hand in hand with EFF in helping the Sendong survivors.
