Cadets in the Community - 17 Squadron support Woodhall Spa 10k 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏆🎖️

This morning, a group of Cadets from 17 Coningsby Squadron made the short journey over the Woodhall Spa to help support this years Woodhall Spa 10 event, ran by Curly’s Athletes.

The 9 Cadets, supported by CI Pearson and CI Clarke would be on hand to run one of the stations along the route being there to offer water rehydration to all those who needed it, and did so in a supportive and professional manner.

They then went one step further to take part in a Guard of Honour to encourage and welcome the last competitor over the line at the end of a very successful event. The Squadron has been very lucky to support the event for a number of years now and we thank the organisers or Curly’s athletes to invite us back to support the day, and of course a thank you to every one involved who put together today’s event and a massive well done to all those who competed in all categories with plenty of medals and smiles to complete the day.

An event which our Cadets have enjoyed being a part of and gaining lots of experiences working within our local community.

✈️ Taking to the Skies with 7 AEF

Six of our cadets recently had the incredible opportunity to fly with 7 Air Experience Flight at RAF Cranwell, gaining first-hand experience of powered flight. Well done to Cdt Batey, Cdt Molyneux, Cdt Barrett, Cdt Hodgekiss, Cdt Davies-Dickinson, and Cdt Rowland for representing the squadron so well.

Flying with an AEF gives cadets a unique insight into aviation, operating in the Tutor aircraft alongside RAF pilots. From take-off to airborne manoeuvres, cadets are introduced to the fundamentals of flight — and in many cases, get the chance to handle the controls themselves.

These experiences are a key part of the RAF Air Cadets, helping to build confidence, develop understanding of aviation, and inspire future pathways in flying and aerospace. A fantastic opportunity and a memorable day for all involved. 👏

💬 Would you take your first flight in a Tutor?

✈️ When at Cranwell… we fly.

Yesterday, six of our cadets took to the skies with 7 AEF at RAF Cranwell, experiencing powered flying first-hand. A huge well done to Cdt Batey, Cdt Molyneux, Cdt Barrett, Cdt Hodgekiss, Cdt Davies-Dickinson, and Cdt Rowland for making the most of this opportunity.

7 Air Experience Flight (AEF) provides cadets with the chance to fly in the Tutor aircraft, introducing them to the fundamentals of powered flight. During their sorties, cadets experience everything from take-off and handling the aircraft to basic manoeuvres, all under the guidance of a qualified RAF pilot — with many even getting the opportunity to take control themselves.

Flying with an AEF is often one of the most memorable parts of cadet life, offering a real insight into aviation and building confidence in a completely unique environment. Experiences like this are what make the RAF Air Cadets stand out. 👏

💬 Would you take the controls at 4,000 feet?

🥾 DofE Practice Expedition – Building Confidence Step by Step ☀️

A great set of photos from yesterday’s Bronze Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition at 2160 (Sleaford) Squadron.

Cadets took on a full practice walk, putting their training into action while developing key skills such as navigation, teamwork, pacing, and endurance. With the sunshine out, it was the perfect opportunity to experience what a real expedition feels like and identify what works well… and what to improve.

These practice days are a vital part of the DofE journey, helping cadets build confidence, resilience, and independence before their assessed expedition. A strong effort from everyone involved. 👏

💬 Would you be ready to take on the challenge?

🥾 Ready for the real expedition? ☀️

Today, our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh cadets headed to 2160 (Sleaford) Squadron for a practice expedition walk, getting a real feel for an expedition.

With the benefit of great weather, cadets covered ground while developing key expedition skills… including navigation, pacing, teamwork, and kit management. Practice walks like this are essential in building confidence and ensuring everyone is fully prepared for their assessed expedition.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) challenges cadets to step outside their comfort zones through sections including expedition, volunteering, physical, and skills. The expedition element in particular teaches resilience, independence, and decision-making… all while working as a team in unfamiliar environments.

Today was a strong step forward, with cadets gaining valuable experience, testing their preparation, and building confidence for the real thing. 👏

💬 Could you take on a DofE expedition?
