🐾 Meet Rex 🐾

Rex is a 4-year-old Dobermann looking for a home that understands the breed and is willing to put a little time into helping him become the best version of himself.

The good news? Rex absolutely adores people. Whether it's meeting someone for the first time, visitors to the house, or even delivery drivers at the door, he is consistently friendly, affectionate, and a real gentleman with humans.

Like many dogs who haven't had the benefit of extensive socialisation, Rex can become over-excited around things that catch his attention. He's recently found cats and sheep rather exciting from a distance and can be enthusiastic when he spots them. With calm handling, training, and continued exposure work, this is something that can be managed and improved.

When it comes to other dogs, we believe careful introductions are important. Rex hasn't had a particularly social upbringing, and his new family should be prepared to continue working on his dog-to-dog skills at a pace that suits him. He doesn't need a busy dog park lifestyle – he needs owners who understand that quality training and positive experiences are far more important.

Rex is a bright boy who listens well and wants to engage with his handler. He simply needs someone willing to invest the time into channelling his enthusiasm and teaching him that he doesn't need to charge into every situation at 100 miles an hour!

He's already beginning to lose a little weight and is looking better every day.

Rex isn't a ready-made dog, but for the right person he has all the ingredients to become an incredible companion. Loyal, loving, intelligent, and eager to please – he just needs someone willing to guide him.

🖤🐾 DANCING DOBERMAN DISEASE – A LITTLE-KNOWN CONDITION AFFECTING OUR BELOVED BREED 🐾🖤

Many Dobermann owners may never have heard of Dancing Doberman Disease (DDD), also known as Distal Polyneuropathy or Dancing Doberman Syndrome, but it is a condition that every Dobermann lover should be aware of.

DDD is a rare neurological disorder that primarily affects Dobermanns. It causes an unusual movement in the hind legs, often making it appear as though the dog is “dancing” or constantly shifting its weight from one back leg to the other.

The condition is believed to be inherited and usually develops gradually. Some dogs show signs as young as six months old, while others may not develop symptoms until much later in life.

Common signs include:

🐾 Repeated flexing of one or both hind legs
🐾 Shifting weight from leg to leg
🐾 Weakness in the rear limbs
🐾 Knuckling of the back paws
🐾 Loss of muscle mass in the lower hind legs

The good news is that Dancing Doberman Disease is not considered painful. Although the symptoms can look concerning, affected dogs are often bright, happy, and able to enjoy a good quality of life for many years.

Sadly, there is currently no cure, and the condition tends to progress slowly over time. However, most affected dogs continue to live full lives with the love and support of their families.

As Dobermann owners and breed enthusiasts, awareness is incredibly important. Understanding conditions that can affect our breed helps us recognise symptoms early, seek veterinary advice, and make informed breeding decisions that protect future generations.

Such an amazing business supporting our rescue

🐾❤️ A Visit to Jollyes with Hunter ❤️🐾

Today Hunter enjoyed another trip to Jollyes in Congleton, where he received the usual warm welcome from Andy and the fantastic team.

As we stood looking around the store, it really made us reflect on just how much support Jollyes has given Adopt A Rescue Dobermann UK from the very beginning. Long before many people knew who we were, Jollyes believed in what we were trying to achieve and have continued to support us every step of the way.

Through food donations, collection points, supplies, encouragement and simply being there whenever we need them, they have helped us make a difference to the lives of so many dogs. As a rescue, we simply couldn’t do what we do without support like this.

We are also incredibly fortunate to be based in Congleton. The kindness and generosity shown by the local community never ceases to amaze us. Whether it’s donating food, sharing our posts, fostering, adopting, volunteering, or simply cheering us on, the people of Congleton have helped us build something very special.

We truly are blessed to have such a supportive community around us.

Today was another reminder that rescue isn’t just about the dogs in our care. It’s about people coming together, local businesses supporting local causes, and a community that genuinely cares about animal welfare.

🐾 Wonderful News About Hazel! 🐾

We are absolutely delighted to share that Hazel has gone off to her wonderful new home! ❤️

Hazel has settled in brilliantly already and is enjoying all the love, attention, and comfort she deserves. She has landed a fantastic home where she will be spoilt rotten, enjoy plenty of adventures, and have lots of lovely walks exploring the world around her. 🐕🌳

As with all rescue dogs, this is the happy ending we hope for – a family who sees just how special they are and is committed to giving them the life they deserve.

🐾 Rescue Dogs Aren’t Broken — They Just Need Guidance 🐾

One of the biggest misconceptions about rescue dogs is that they should arrive perfectly trained, or that any unwanted behaviours should disappear overnight.

The reality is that many rescue dogs have had little training, inconsistent boundaries, or simply never been shown what is expected of them. Pulling on the lead, jumping up, and excessive barking are all common behaviours that can be improved with patience, consistency, and understanding.

Every dog learns at their own pace. Some progress quickly, while others need a little more time and support. The important thing is to focus on progress, not perfection.

We see incredible transformations every day. Dogs that once dragged their owners down the road learn to walk calmly. Dogs that barked at every sound learn to relax. Dogs that couldn’t contain their excitement learn how to greet people politely.

Remember:

✅ Training isn’t a race
✅ Consistency is key
✅ Reward the behaviours you want to see
✅ Small improvements lead to big changes
✅ Every dog deserves the chance to succeed

Most importantly, rescue dogs aren’t looking for perfect owners. They’re looking for patient people willing to guide them, support them, and celebrate every little victory along the way.

🐾❤️ One Year of Wilma ❤️🐾

Today marks one whole year since Wilma found her forever home, and what a year it has been.

When Wilma left rescue, we knew she was going to a family who would give her the time, patience and understanding she deserved. Over the last 12 months, Vanessa and Lee have done exactly that and so much more.

Wilma has become a much-loved member of the family and has formed an incredibly special bond with their 20-month-old granddaughter. The two of them are apparently quite the double act and keep everyone entertained with their antics. ❤️

Like many rescue dogs, Wilma came with her challenges. With the dedication of her family and the support of their wonderful trainer Laura, she has worked incredibly hard to overcome her fears. Her confidence continues to grow, and her reactivity has improved tremendously. Progress like this doesn’t happen overnight – it takes commitment, consistency and love.

Stories like Wilma’s are exactly why rescue is so important. Seeing a dog not only find a home but truly become part of a family is everything we could ever wish for.

Thank you, Vanessa and Lee, for believing in Wilma and giving her the life she always deserved. We couldn’t be happier to see how loved she is.

🐾 Chester Update 🐾

We absolutely love receiving updates like this from our adopters. ❤️

Chester has settled into family life beautifully and is keeping everyone thoroughly entertained.

We’ve discovered that he has a serious obsession with tennis balls 🎾. His family bought him a bag of 30, and apparently he’s now worked out exactly where they’re kept! If he wants one, he’ll happily sit and whine until one appears. 🤣 His humans have even started sneaking a few back into the bag so he thinks he’s getting a brand-new tennis ball each time… don’t tell Chester! 🤫

He’s also become quite the little thief. If anything goes missing, chances are you’ll find it somewhere in the garden. The TV remote has already fallen victim to his collection habits! 😂

One of the loveliest parts of this update is hearing how much he adores his sister Lucy. They start every day with a play session and finish every evening the same way before bed. ❤️🐾

When he’s not playing or relocating household items, Chester is a complete Dobermann cuddle bug. He loves nothing more than burying his head in your lap and, if you’re not paying attention, planting a full-sized Chester kiss right across your face! 😘🐶

It’s clear that this handsome boy is absolutely thriving in his forever home, and updates like this remind us exactly why we do what we do.
