A WARM WELCOME TO YOU ALL ๐ฅฐ
We canโt believe that our charity now has 1,909 followers ๐คฉ
To welcome you all and for those that donโt know, we thought we would let you know the story behind Comrie Cancer Research and Relief Club โ this is our official name.
Founded in 1978 by husband-and-wife team, Davie & Jessie Robertson, it originally started out with a few games of bingo to support cancer research, the bingo nights became so popular, and more and more items were donated to it, Davie was offered the use of a residentโs paint store down by the bridge in the village where he could sell the items and it grew from there. The charity has had several homes in the village, and it settled into its current home in Dunira Street in 1992 where it has developed into what we know and love today.
As well as providing funding for much needed research we also support charities that support families that are affected by cancer, while also serving the local community through affordable goods and recycling options.
Davie received an MBE in June 2002 for services to the community of Comrie. A very deserved award ๐
To this day some of the founders' direct family members remain actively involved in our cause.
From the very beginning, the charity has been run entirely by volunteers. What started with just a handful of helpers has grown into a team of more than 30 dedicated volunteers. While our volunteers play a vital role in helping the charity succeed, the shop has also become a welcoming and supportive place where people can meet others, stay active, and enjoy being part of the community.
Being entirely volunteer-run helps ensure that every possible penny raised goes directly towards our charitable efforts.
Together, we have donated over ยฃ1.6 million to Scottish cancer charities.
We accept and sell a variety of donated items, from clothing to small household goods, making it easy for you to contribute to our mission while finding great bargains. Thanks to the incredible support we receive through donations and sales, the charity has expanded beyond the village shop, and we now also have our two huts up at Cultybraggan camp: Hut 43 for donations, and Hut 61 for Sunday sales.
Our shop is more than just a place to find great value items - it is a hub of community support, compassion, and generosity. Something we are very proud of. โค๏ธ
