Birthlink UK Birthlink UK is a non-profit organisation supporting neonatal healthcare in countries where care is compromised through lack of education and facilities.

BirthLink supports Maternal and Neonatal Healthcare in countries where care is compromised through lack of education and limited facilities. Through workshops, seminars and 'hands on' skills training, our aim is to improve outcomes for mothers and babies. Our objectives:

To link neonatal nurses and midwives in the UK with colleagues around the world, particularly in developing countries
To share knowledge and understanding
To facilitate learning and development for safer practice
To fill a gap in addressing the needs of sick newborns

Our love and prayers go out to all our dear friends and colleagues in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh), as they flee their homeland. We weep with you and share your pain.
BirthLink supported neonatology in this region for almost 20 years, and was our second home for so long.
Our organisation was established because of the help this region needed and the wonderful people we worked with.

Before leaving Panzi Hospital at the end of our week, we were able to visit the new maternity building under construction. Together with the architects and logistics team we spent time on the top floor where the Neonatal department will be. We look forward to seeing it on completion.

With the increasing number of babies admitted at Panzi hospital space is becoming a real problem. Thankfully a new maternity building is currently being built, with a spacious neonatal unit. In the meantime we advised on a different layout to give both staff and Mums a more user friendly environment.

A busy week at Panzi with more than 30 babies in Neonatology. There has been significantly more admissions since previous visits, with many transfers from health centres in Bukavu. Panzi is now developing a reputation for its high standard of neonatal care.

Dr Cath led teaching sessions on infection and early management of the preterm baby for paediatric staff and medical students. Teaching continued on the unit during the ward round with Dr Birindwa.
Great to see the documentation we introduced in 2016 still being used for day to day care and management.
