The sun might be hiding today, and with the rain making a return ☔ you might be wondering how to spend your weekend!

You may remember back at Christmas when Counterpoint Choir supported Ashes to Gold by raising funds at their festive concert. They’re back again tonight—this time raising money for two incredible charities: RNLI and The Boom Foundation

Wishing everyone involved the very best of luck! If you’re free this evening, why not head along and enjoy a fantastic night of music with Team Counterpoint? 🎶

✨ A Special Visit to Ashes to Gold Oasis ✨

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Gordon Lyons, Minister for Communities, to Ashes to Gold Oasis, and we were truly honoured that he chose our project as one he wanted to see for himself

The Department for Communities has been a valued supporter of Oasis for several years, helping to fund our annual running costs. At the start of 2026, we were also incredibly grateful to receive a small capital grant which has made such a difference to our space

Thanks to this funding, we have been able to repaint the entire interior of our building, install new carpets and floor coverings, and purchase new chairs and table covers for our group sessions.
These improvements have helped us create a more welcoming, comfortable environment for everyone who comes through our doors. Many people come to Oasis during some of the most challenging times in their lives, and it’s so important to us that they feel safe, supported, and at home here

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to DfC Neighbourhood Renewal for their continued support in helping us to support our community—it truly makes a lasting impact

And of course, a special thank you to Minister Gordon Lyons for taking the time to visit us. We felt extremely humbled and really enjoyed the opportunity to meet him, share our work, and show firsthand the difference this support is making. 💛

Are you a counsellor-in-training? We are now open for applications from counselling students who require a placement from September 2026. This would be suitable for 3rd year Foundation degree students requiring an SP2 placement or PCI College Year 3 or 4 students requiring a placement.

At Ashes To Gold, we have a well-established mentor system with good links to the local training providers, and we have supported many students in achieving their goal of becoming a qualified counsellor.

Please email [email protected] to request an application form. Completed forms must be received no later than 12pm on Thursday 28th May 2026. Interviews will take place between 1st and 11th June 2026.

📢 We are so proud to share that Ashes To Gold has taken the Pledge to End Violence Against Women & Girls ♀️
For the last decade we have been supporting women who have experienced abuse and violence. On Thursday our staff and volunteers completed specialist training with Nexus, helping us ensure we are equipped with the knowledge and tools to play an active role in EVAWG, create safe spaces for survivors of abuse, and champion gender equality in our workplace.
Huge thanks to Nexus for delivering the training and to Cara Hunter MLA who joined us to mark the occasion and speak with us about the impact this will have in our community 🙏

🌱 They’re Back! 🌱

Welcome Home, Mount Fern Gang! 💚

The wait is finally over! Our hearts (and our gardens) are officially full again because the Mount Fern gang has made their long-awaited return to The Grow Project.

To be honest, the place just hasn’t felt the same without them. We’ve missed the energy, the stories, and the spirit they bring to the project. Week one was a total whirlwind—there were so many emotions flying around, from happy tears to huge bear hugs!

✨ What’s in Store?
The group is diving straight into a 12-week immersive programme designed to nourish the soul and get those hands dirty. Over the next few months, we’ll be focusing on:

🌿Fresh Air & Nature: Soaking up the great outdoors

🌼Gardening: Tending to the earth and watching things bloom

🔨Woodcraft: Getting creative with natural materials

❤️ Laughter: (The most important part!) There’s already been plenty of it

Welcome back, friends. We’ve missed you more than words can say, and we can’t wait to see what and how we grow together over the next 12 weeks! 🌿🔨🌻

🌟 Five Years, Three Big Smiles, and a Spot of Fishing 🌟

We’re taking a moment to celebrate a very special milestone! For the past five years, The Honourable The Irish Society has been the backbone of our work at the Moorbrook site. They’ve provided more than just financial support, they’ve offered invaluable guidance and a helping hand at every turn

Last week, we finally got them on-site to say a proper thank you. We hosted Duane Farrell for a tour, complete with tea and scones ☕️🥮

Judging by the smiles in the photo of Duane, our Project Manager Chris Campbell, and our Chairperson Dr. Mark McKinney, the day was a huge success. Duane was incredibly impressed with the site and the impact our projects are having on children and young people

He even bumped into some of our Home Schooling community members who were out fishing. We’re pretty sure the fish were just waiting to show off for a VIP guest, as the activity level was top-tier! 🎣

Huge thanks to The Honourable The Irish Society for being such an incredible partner. Here’s to many more years of impact (and scones)!

🐾Another Day, Another Doggy Update! 🐕

Look, we know these furry friend posts are becoming a bit of a habit, but honestly, can you blame us? When our visitors are this cute, it would be a crime not to share!

Today’s star of the show is the handsome Elgar 🌟

He’s a hardworking Guide Dog for one of our service users, and he took some time out of his busy schedule to inspect the grounds. It has to be said, he seemed pretty impressed with the work we’re doing here at Ashes to Gold—he gave us the official "paws up" of approval! 🐾✅

He was a perfect gentleman all afternoon, but as he was heading out the door, he looked back at us and barked:

🐾"The atmosphere here is great and the people are lovely... but I’ve checked the accounts and there is a serious lack of biscuit-based funding. I’ll expect a full report (and a Bonio) by my next visit!" 🦴

Thanks for brightening our day, Elgar! You’re welcome back anytime—as long as we can find where we hid the treats

🌸Supporting the Local Community: Blossom Volunteers at Asda Coleraine 🌸

We have some wonderful news to share! Asda Coleraine has very kindly allowed our Blossom Volunteers to set up a donation point right inside the local store. 🛒✨

How You Can Help
Next time you’re doing your weekly shop, we’d love for you to consider picking up just one small extra item—be it a toothbrush, a bottle of shower gel, or a pack of tissues—and popping it into our designated trolley on your way out 🧴🪥

We know that times are tough for everyone right now, and we truly appreciate that budgets are stretched. Please know that no donation is too small; even the simplest item makes a massive difference to those we support

The Love Grace Handbag Appeal 👜
Donations to our collection will go to the Love Grace handbag appeal. This beautiful initiative was set up in memory of Grace Millane to provide handbags filled with essential toiletries and "luxury" items (like a nice lip balm or a notebook) for women seeking refuge from domestic violence. It’s about more than just the items -it’s about restoring dignity and showing these women that people care

A Huge Thank You to Asda 🙏
We want to say a massive thank you to the team at Asda Coleraine for their incredible support

Top Tip: Asda currently has some fantastic deals and "Rollbacks" on toiletries and essentials, so you can pick up a donation item for a very small cost while you're grabbing your own essentials. 💸

Thank you for your continued kindness and for helping us support our local community. Together, we can make a real impact! 💖

Love Grace x

🐾 Our Maisie's on a Mission 🐾

We always boast about our volunteers so we thought we'd end the week with a special appreciation post for one of our longest serving helpers 🩷

You might remember we told you this week that we were blessed with a grant from National Garden Scheme for new equipment for our volunteer team.

Well our Maisie heard the news and decided to do a bit of window shopping today. We think she's made a great choice 🙂

What do you think ?

✨ BIG NEWS from The Grow Project! ✨

We have some more fantastic news to share...

We have just been awarded a grant of £4,100 from The Screwfix Foundation! 🛠️💎

This generous support is going straight into our kitchen and dining area. We’ll be installing new storage for all our essentials, making the space much tidier, more organised, and—most importantly—more hygienic for everyone.

This couldn't have come at a better time as we make the final preparations to reopen our workshop and welcome even more groups back to the site

Anyone who has been through our programmes knows one thing for sure: we love a good cuppa! ☕️ But our tea and lunch breaks are about so much more than filling our bellies

They are the moments when we down tools, come together, and just chat. That social connection is the heartbeat of a day at Grow and the Workshop

A massive thank you to everyone at the The Screwfix Foundation for helping us make this happen. Keep an eye on our page—we’ll be sharing plenty of "after" photos once the work is complete! 📸✨
