Last nights kittens at the vets today. 9 with various levels of sickness. 1 has unfortunately, lost both eyes due to the kitten flu. 😢 there is a heavy atmosphere within the rescue at the moment. This is the reality of cats not been neutered- kittens suffering outside.

All 9 have had treatment today and we are hopeful for them improving.

Neutering can significantly improve your cats health. For females, the risk of cervical, ovarian and mammary cancer reduces. Alongside eliminating the possibility of pregnancy. For Male cats, neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and reduces the liklihood of prostate issues. Neutering can lead to better behaviours in cats as it reduces or eliminates roaming, marking and mating behaviours.

DAERA's Public Consultation on Proposed Animal Welfare Policy Reforms in Northern Ireland.

Deadline 30/06/26

Consultation seeks views on proposed changes across four key policy areas:

• the regulation of rescue and rehoming organisations

• an inflationary increase in dog licence fees

• a ban on specific aversive training devices

• strengthened microchipping requirements for dogs

Additionally, the consultation includes a call for evidence on the mandatory microchipping of pet cats. 🐱

With our recent additions we are running very low in kitten food, milk and mousse - please if you can help , can be purchased through Amazon or left at our donation point in Jolleys.

Amongst the colony of over 30 cats. This tiny male kitten weighing just 115g was amongst the sick. Sneezing and sore eyes. 99% kittens are always best with their mum but when mum isn’t around and kittens are sick- we have to intervene. We know the odds of this wee one surviving are low but we will do our best. 💙 we have named him Fudge.

This evening our volunteers Leah, Chloe, Maya & Anne have been back at a large colony in Castleroe. 9 sick kittens we have had to make space for ( more info coming) and have trapped a further 6 cats for trap, neuter & return (TNR). We estimate at least 30 cats and dozens of kittens. We will
Keep returning until they are all neutered.
