Coldstream SWI Bringing women together Welcome to the Coldstream Scottish Women’s Institute (SWI). You are never too young or too old to join!!

We offer women of all ages the opportunity to learn new skills, take part in a wide variety of activities, all of which offer friendship and fun and the chance to get to know your neighbours. We are part of the Berwickshire federation which works to enhance local community life and constantly strives to preserve the quality of Scottish living. SWI formed back in 1917 as the Scottish Women's Rural Institutes with two main aims, to advance the education and training of those who live and work in the country, or are interested in country life, in home skills, family welfare and citizenship and to promote the preservation of Scotland's traditions and its rural heritage. If you are not already a member, then why not give SWI a try? You will be made most welcome here in Coldstreams Institute. We meet in the Stable Bar of The Besom Inn on the High Street, Coldstream on every 3rd Thursday of the month at 7pm from September through to May (we take a short break for the summer). Scottish Women's Rural Institutes is a registered Scottish charity also known as the SWI Charity No SC011901

Please share: we're excited to share the class list for the 2027 Scottish Handcrafts Championship at the Royal Highland Show.

Each year, the Royal Highland Show gives us a wonderful platform to showcase the remarkable skill and creativity found across our Institutes, and seeing SWI members' entries on display is always one of the highlights of the year.

Further details, including classes and entry information, will be shared in the full schedule, which will be published in spring 2027.

Please share: We were proud to showcase our new anniversary branding revealed at the SWI Members' Gathering this past weekend. As we begin preparations for our celebrations next year, we're delighted to share it with you all.

A quick note for members: we will produce some branding guidelines on how to use it, in the next issue of Members' News, later this month.

We'll also be exploring merchandise options featuring the new branding, more on that in the future.

What a fabulous evening we had last night, with the brilliant Pauline Beaumont, baker extraordinar. A really interesting talk on how Pauline got into baking bread and explaining all the benefits to us, both gut health and our mental health. Then we got to taste her delicious bread, including the one she made for Robson Green.

We’re rolling out a new safeguarding initiative across our membership to help support the safe, welcoming spaces our members create.

Members will receive guidance and a policy template in February, for most, this simply formalises the great work already happening at Institutes across Scotland.
