Its always wonderful to hear from former pupils.

It was such a delight to welcome former pupil, Jules Hudson, BBC TV presenter, back to Colchester Prep & High School this morning. Jules is in Colchester for an exclusive evening at the Mercury Theatre reminiscing about “In the Town Where I Was Born” and came to take a look around CPHS so he could see the changes that had taken place since he attended. Listening to his stories this morning, this show is a definite must-see!

We are excellent!

Colchester Prep & High School are delighted to announce that we have achieved ‘excellent’ in all areas, following our recent ISI Inspection. A double “excellent” is the highest possible outcome for a school during an Educational Quality Inspection. Inspectors stated that the school was excellent, both for the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements and excellent, for the quality of pupils’ personal development.

We are particularly delighted that an external, independent body has not only recognised the excellent school that we are, but also that that they have captured the essence of who we are; highlighting how, through the school’s aims, we build in our pupils the confidence and strength of character to become the ‘changemakers of tomorrow’s world’.

We would like to thank our whole community for their ongoing strength of commitment to our school, and in particular to our pupils who commented to inspectors, how they ‘look after each other and demonstrate very high levels of care and friendship,’ and that they are ‘proud of their school, speaking eagerly of their ambitions for the future.’

Highlights of the report include:

• “Relationships between teachers and pupils are harmonious and positive, creating an environment in which pupils make rapid gains in their learning.”

• “Pupils complete accredited courses on how to harness digital transformation to create immersive and inclusive experiences that inspire lifelong learning.”

• “Pupils across the school develop resilience with problem-solving because they are given interesting challenges to solve – notably in mathematics and science – where pupils show high-level reasoning skills.”

• “Pupils have led events to inform others about different issues or groups, through this rich experience and learning, pupils are well prepared for life in modern Britain.”

Mr Maynard spoke to them about how to write a good article, where to find stories, the types of jobs that can be found in journalism and how good journalism can help make a difference in the world. Our school news reporters are all eager now to get the next big scoop! Thank you Mr Maynard for taking the time to come in and talk to us.

For Green Careers Week, we were delighted to welcome former pupil, Mr Croydon, Skills, Education and Examination Director for the British Pharmaceutical Industry, back to school to talk to our KS4 pupils about careers that protect the environment and make a difference for our world. With the UK’s target of reaching net zero emissions by 2050, there is expected to be major growth in this area of the job market.
