Sea Cadets Colchester

Sea Cadets Colchester We are Sea Cadets Colchester and part of the UK's largest maritime youth charity. We are the Colchester unit of the Sea Cadet Corps.

We are based on "the big red lightship" down at the Hythe; and are open to boys and girls aged between ten and eighteen. The Colchester Sea Cadets are part of the UK's largest maritime youth charity. Whether you achieve A grades in every exam and want something more outside of school, or you're the child sat bored at the back of the classroom yearning to do something more practical - the Sea Cadet

Corps could be exactly what you're looking for. Cadets go to sea; learn to sail, operate powerboats and work as part of a team to gain valuable qualifications. They can also learn engineering, communication, cooking, map reading, shooting, navigation, leadership, problem solving, organisation, initiative, musical and first aid skills, plus a whole lot more! We can arrange trips on Royal Navy warships and international exchanges are available to countries all over the world - from Canada to Singapore. Cadets over 14 can also count many of their experiences towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards - highly sought after by employers. All whilst having fun, gaining recognised qualifications and making friends.

Last night on board the ship we had our Unit Review. Commander Chittock and Lieutenant Commander Purcell were our awesome VIP’s for the evening. As reviewing officers they had the pleasure of a tour and participating in some heaving line throwing.

It is with great sadness that London Northern District Sea Cadets announces the passing of SLt (SCC) Christine Weston RNR.

Christine has been a key and valued member of the District Staff for many years, as well as a dedicated member of Clapton & Hackney Unit, where she served as Officer in Charge until ill health forced her to step back. Her commitment, kindness, and professionalism have left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with her.

She supported and inspired both staff and cadets alike and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Christine was often the reassuring presence on courses, camps, and parades, and at meetings, always offering guidance, care, laughs, and encouragement when it was needed most.

We extend our heartfelt thanks for her years of dedication, service, and the countless young people and adults she helped along the way.

As a District, we send our sincere condolences to all her family, especially our District Officer, Lt Cdr (SCC) Mark Weston RNR.

At this difficult time, we respectfully ask that everyone honours the family’s wishes and allows them the privacy and space to grieve.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those affected by this loss.
