THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO OUR COLLECTION TO AID THOSE WHO WERE AFFECTED BY THE RECENT FLOODS IN NEPAL.

Representatives from the 4 Rotary Club in Colchester were at the Britannia Gurkha Restaurant and Bar on 5th October to present a cheque for £2860 to the Udai Gurung, Charman of the Colchester Nepalese Society for the money collected in Lion Walk Colchester on 25th and 26th September.

A joint collection by all 4 Clubs raised a total of £1755, which was a fantastic result over those 2 days. Our thanks to everyone who contributed, to Lion Walk for allowing us to collect, and to members of the Colchester Nepalese Society who assisted us.

In addition to the funds collected we were pleased to add a further £1,105 to the donation. This is the amount raised by Rotary Corporate Member, Rim Jhim Spice Restaurant in Villa Road Stanway, at their Elvis Tribute night on 21st September.

The Colchester Nepalese Society will be working closely with people in Nepal and ensure the funds go directly toward relief and recovery efforts for the families who have lost everything - their homes, their livelihoods, and in far too many cases, their loved ones.

Charity night raises over £1,000 to help families hit by the Nepal floods.



On Monday 21 September, Rim Jhim Spice – a corporate member of the Rotary Club of Colchester – hosted a lovely charity evening at their restaurant. A full house enjoyed great food and entertainment while raising £1,100. The money will be sent via the Rotary Club to the Colchester Nepalese Society (CNS), who will use their links in Nepal to make sure it goes straight to relief and recovery for families who have lost their homes, livelihoods and, all too often, loved ones.

Rotarian Udaibahadur Gurung, Chairman of CNS, said: “Raising over £1,000 in one evening is brilliant – a huge thank you to everyone at Rim Jhim Spice.”

Hira Miah, the restaurant manager, would love other Colchester businesses – especially restaurants – to join in with fundraising or donations. It will take many years and plenty of support for those affected in Nepal to rebuild their lives.

Collectors from then 4 Rotary Clubs in Colchester and the Colchester Nepalese society will be in LION WALK again tomorrow, from 9:30 am to 3:30pm

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR COLLECTION TO HELP THE VICTIMS OF THE NEPAL FLOODS

All 4 Rotary clubs in Colchester will be joining together to hold a collection in Lion Walk, Colchester this coming Friday 25 and Saturday 26.

The fund will be paid to the Colchester Nepalese Society (CNS), representing the Nepalese and Gurkha community here in Colchester. Many of whom have family, friends, and roots in the very communities affected by this tragedy, and they are determined to do everything we can to support them.

Every donation will go directly toward relief and recovery efforts for the families who have lost everything - their homes, their livelihoods, and in far too many cases, their loved ones.

If you are in Colchester on Friday or Saturday, please come and say hello and if you can support us, that would be great.

SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

The Rotary Club of Colchester were supporting Headway Essex at their annual Classic Vehicle and Vintage Show yesterday.



Visitors enjoyed an incredible display of over 200 classic cars and vehicles, showcasing a wide range of vintage and historic models, as well as a variety of live entertainment.

Headway Essex aim to ensure that everyone in Essex living with an acquired brain injury can live a fulfilling life and that families and carers are better able to cope within their caring roles.

Our club helped by 'manning' the entrance gate and collecting entry fees.

A HUGH THANK YOU to everyone who attended and supported our Last Night of The…. Concert, last night.

Rotarian and Conductor Nigel Hildreth put together a fantastic selection and arrangements of popular music from the movies and a finale of music and songs from the traditional Last Night of The Proms.

Thank you also, to all the Orchestra and Singers, you performed brilliantly, and the night was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who was there.

The funds raised at the event will support the clubs Youth and Wellbeing projects

A Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF) awarded to Gordon Kearney.

The Rotary Club of Colchester were very pleased to award a PHF to Gordon in recognition of his and his team at Fiduciary Wealth Management, contribution to support local good causes.

The citation read as follows:

Today, Managing Director, Gordon we would like to recognise your un-waving duty over the last few years, along with the support and enthusiastic help from the company team of Fiducia Wealth Management and business partners, to help others in the local community. This includes many grass-root organisations and charities such as Lighthouse Women’s Aid, St Helena’s and of course the Rotary Club of Colchester – Youth & Wellbeing fund.
This activity and purpose have made a significant contribution and lasting impact to the local community. Your many fundraising activities have helped raise more than £50,000 given back to local communities.
The presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow recognition is the Rotary Foundation’s and the Rotary Clubs way of expressing its appreciation for a substantial contribution to humanitarian and other areas of need.
The recognition is named after Rotary’s founder, the late Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer, who started Rotary with three business associates in 1905. Professor Chris Booth

On Tuesday (2nd June) we very pleased to welcome Professor Chris Booth a Retired Consultant Urological Surgeon and founder of the CHAPS charity, dedicated to the advocacy for men’s health in general and prostate cancer in particular. He gave an extremely interesting and informative talk on screening for prostate cancer. This was particularly topical as that same morning the government had published a revised prostate screening guidelines on which Chris had strong views!. The talk was very well received and generated many questions and comments by the club members. This in itself shows the progress which has been made with tin dealing with this disease as only a few years ago it is unlikely ‘men’ would have been so open in talking about what they have been through in this regard.
We were also pleased to be able to present Chris with a cheque for £660, being the money raised at our ‘Burns Night Supper’ held in January this year.
