🔎 Searching for buried treasure at Camp Jojo!

A huge thank you to Bob Goodall, who kindly loaned us his metal-detecting equipment for our families to enjoy.

Children and adults had great fun exploring the beach, listening for those exciting beeps and searching beneath the sand for buried treasure. Activities like this create opportunities for families to try something different, have fun together and make wonderful memories during their Camp Jojo stay.

A special thank you to our wonderful yoga instructor, Claire Burch

Claire provided gentle, adapted yoga sessions for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) at Camp Jojo.

PMLD means that a child has a profound learning disability alongside other disabilities that may affect their movement, communication, hearing or sight. Some children also have complex health needs and need support with most areas of daily life.

Physical disabilities and limited movement can sometimes leave a child’s body feeling stiff or uncomfortable and affect their muscles, joints and posture. Through gentle, supported movements, adapted yoga may help children to relax, experience different movements and positions, develop greater body awareness and enjoy valuable sensory interaction. It can also support comfort, flexibility and emotional wellbeing.

Our photograph shows Claire delivering yoga inside our specialist tent. A hoist was available to transfer children safely and with dignity onto a specialist bed, where each session could be adapted around the individual child’s body, comfort and needs.

Thank you, Claire, for bringing such patience, care and warmth to Camp Jojo. You helped create a calm and nurturing space where our children could relax, participate and enjoy an activity designed to include them. 💚

Time to relax, recharge and feel cared for

Caring for a child with complex needs can be physically and emotionally demanding. At Camp Jojo, we want parents and carers to have opportunities to pause and receive some care themselves, while ensuring their children can enjoy accessible and supportive experiences.

The photographs taken at our camps are so much more than pictures. They capture smiles, laughter, new experiences and precious moments shared by families who do not always have many opportunities to enjoy time away together.

🎵 A heartfelt thank you to Sunbeams Music Trust

Music can offer children with complex needs a wonderful way to connect, communicate and express themselves—without needing words.

We were delighted to welcome Keith Redfern and Annie Mawson from Annie Mawson's Sunbeams Music Trust - Sunbeams to Camp Jojo. Through music, rhythm and shared activities, they created a warm and welcoming space where every child could take part in their own way.

Whether listening, responding to sounds, singing, moving to the rhythm or exploring an instrument, each child was encouraged to enjoy the experience at their own pace. These special moments also gave parents, siblings and volunteers the chance to join in and connect through music together.

Thank you, Keith and Annie, for your kindness, creativity and commitment to making music inclusive. You brought something truly special to Camp Jojo and created memories our families will treasure. 💚🎶

🎙️ A huge thank you to Mark's Live Jukebox! 🎸

Mark Hopkinson will be bringing his Elvis Jukebox performances to the Porthcawl Elvis Festival 2026—and generously donating all proceeds from his performances to Camp Jojo!

Every donation will help us provide accessible camping experiences for families with children who have complex needs or disabilities. These special breaks give families opportunities to enjoy new activities, spend quality time together and create lasting memories.

We are incredibly grateful to Mark for using his talent to support our families. If you are attending the festival, make sure you catch one of his lively performances and help raise money for Camp Jojo.

🎶 Music, laughter and moments of joy

Music brings people together—and there was plenty of singing, playing and smiling at Camp Jojo!

Our music sessions gave everyone an opportunity to join in in their own way. For some children, this included trying an instrument or singing along, perhaps for the very first time.

For families raising a child with complex needs, everyday life can involve appointments, medication, equipment, sleepless nights and constant planning.

Parents and carers may spend so much time meeting everyone else’s needs that there is little opportunity to pause. When there are brothers and sisters too, finding activities the whole family can enjoy together can be especially difficult.

Camp Jojo creates a safe, welcoming and accessible space where families can step away from some of those pressures, spend precious time together and make happy memories.

Our camps offer more than a break. They give families a place where their needs are understood, everyone is included, and they can simply enjoy being together.

💚 Every family deserves moments like these.

Camp Jojo has enjoyed an extremely successful and very hot summer! This year marked an exciting new chapter as we opened our second site at Nags Head Farm in Cumbria, where we successfully delivered three camps alongside seven weekends at Ivy Farm in Essex.

For all 51 families who attended, we shared meals and accessible activities to beach walks, campfires and Camp Jojo’s Got Talent! Every camp was filled with friendship, laughter and unforgettable moments. Most importantly, families had the opportunity to relax, spend time together and enjoy experiences designed around their individual needs.

With a special thank you to our volunteers who filled more than 200 volunteer places. We literally cannot do this without the time, skills and energy of our volunteer teams.
