Fingringhoe Wick Nature Discovery Park - EWT Essex Wildlife Trust's first nature reserve (1961). Set on the Colne Estuary, it's a haven for nightingales, saltmarsh and sweeping views.

Buzzard, red kite, kestrel, marsh harrier, barn owl.

Avocet, grey plover, golden plover, black tailed godwit, curlew, teal, ruff, redshank, black headed gull, mallard, cormorant, grey heron, moorhen, little grebe, little egret, shelduck, lapwing, lesser black - back gull, shoveler, brent goose, wigeon, oystercatcher, greenshank, ringed plover, turnstone, red throated diver, glossy ibis.

Great spotted woodpecker, blue tit, green woodpecker, long tailed tit, robin, wren, pied wagtail, dunnock, Cetti's warbler, skylark, carrion crow, stonechat, goldcrest,

Bumble bees, common carder bee.

Rabbit, grey squirrel, adder, common lizard, muntjac, vole.

The sun glitter today at high tide was magnificent - sunglasses needed! The sparkles in the ripples and waves were mesmerising (photo taken from the viewpoint over looking the estuary) whilst Geedons Hide slowly became more boat like.

Come for a walk, spot some waders, then have a cup of tea and a cake in our cafe whilst enjoying the views

Kingfisher, little egret, avocet, grey heron, teal, black tailed godwit, lapwing, curlew, oystercatcher, golden plover, grey plover, dunlin, bar tailed godwit, ringed plover, shelduck, knot, wigeon, redshank, lesser black-back gull, black headed gull, greenshank, moorhen, coot, water rail, great crested grebe, red throated diver, mallard, tufted duck, great white egret, cormorant, mute swan.

Jay, pied wagtail, stonechat, cetti's warbler, woodpigeon, green woodpecker, robin, blue tit, great tit, long tailed tit, wren, blackbird, chiffchaff, magpie, reed bunting, carrion crow, coal tit, treecreeper, meadow pipit.

Phenology was the first adult session for October. On the session we:
Connected to nature ✅
Got creative ✅
Enjoyed the sunshine ✅
Saw a buzzard and a woodpecker ✅
Were mesmerized by the Lapwings in flight ✅
Found some fungi ✅

Next session is this week on Thursday 8th, 10am-1pm. Join us for Nature Journaling which will involve a short talk and then a woodland ramble before we journal our findings (all resources provided)

For October we welcome Sally Pudney to the exhibition area:

“Sally Pudney is a landscape painter working in an expressive realistic style from her studio near Colchester. She works in acrylic on board, often with added oil pastel, and also in soft pastel.
Her paintings focus on the landscapes and seascapes East Anglia, with a particular interest in ancient tracks, paths and bridleways.
Her work can be seen at the Buckenham Galleries in Southwold, and at various art shows around Essex and Suffolk. Her work has been short listed for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. She holds twice yearly Open Studio events, and is co-organiser of the Anglian Arts Project, showing work by groups of invited professional artists at pop-up shows in local venues.
“My paintings show the huge East Anglian skies, the quiet lanes and bridleways, the woodlands and estuaries of Essex and Suffolk. I try to capture the way light falls on the surface of water, and the colours, shadows and movement of trees and fields against those big skies.
I love to be outside in the natural world and I hope my paintings convey something of this life enhancing pleasure to the viewer.”
