We were delighted to receive a wonderful donation of baby items from students at Colchester Institute’s Foundation and Learning Department.

As part of their community unit, the students have been collecting and carefully packaging essentials to support local families — a thoughtful project that truly reflects the power of young people making a difference in their community.

These items will go directly to parents who need a little extra support, and we’re so grateful to Course Leader Amanda Barnes and her students for choosing to support -Start Colchester Jaywick & Clacton

We are delighted to share some wonderful news for our Home-Start families! 💙

Thanks to the incredible generosity of local community champion Simon Collis, we have been gifted 21 cinema tickets for families to enjoy the brand-new family movie HITPIG! this Father's Day weekend. 🐘🎥

Our home‑visiting support continues to change lives for families across our community.
So far this year, we have seen parents grow in confidence, children flourish, and homes become calmer, happier places.
Families tell us they feel more settled, more supported and more able to cope with day‑to‑day challenges. Having someone to listen to them, guide and walk alongside them makes all the difference.
Regular visits help parents feel connected, building trust, friendships and the confidence to join groups and engage in community life.
With gentle guidance and reassurance, parents are enjoying more positive interactions, more one‑to‑one time and stronger bonds with their children.
As routines strengthen and confidence grows, families are seeing calmer bedtimes, smoother mornings and children who feel more secure and understood.
Small steps, consistent support and genuine connection help families thrive.

At groups this week we have used The Very Hungry Caterpillar to develop an understanding of life cycles and how living things grow and change. Children will be able to observe growth first hand after creating their own grass caterpillars. We have encouraged development of coordination, balance and spatial awareness by using gross motor movements to fly like butterflies.
