Domestic violence in Bangladesh is still considered a "personal matter" and ignored by the community.

A survey conducted in 2020 in Bangladesh revealed that 4,249 women and 456 children were found to have been subjected to domestic violence in April 2020. Of these victims, 1,672 women and 424 children were facing violence for the first time in their lives.

The research was conducted on 65,000 women and children in 53 districts

According to “Technology-Mediated Violence Against Women in Bangladesh,” a discussion held by ARTICLE 19, an international freedom of speech organization, 70% of women who face cyber harassment in Dhaka fall between the age range of 15-25.

With the rapidly evolving technology and social media slowly being available to the vast majority, it comes as no surprise that cybercrime rates are increasing.

During 16 Days of Activism for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the CWAA is doing public engagements for ending Gender-Based Violence against women.

On Day-3 of , we REMEMBER and PROTEST gang r**e and violence against Bangladeshi women in lockdowns and during the pandemic.

As also Dr Rumana Hashem notes, "Violence against women has increased during the lockdown and r**e of women continues to be on the rise with little attention from the government about how to prevent this." A report published by Odikhar in October 2020 revealed that 322 women and girls were r**ed between July and September 2020, and 58 percent of the victims are children.

Most cases of r**e have been committed by ruling party members, few media have covered the news and only a small group of civil society members have raised voices in public places. When will actions be taken for the elimination of violence against women in Bangladesh?
