Greenpath Ventures

Greenpath Ventures Outdoor Wellbeing and Education Greenpath Ventures is a visionary charity based in North Essex. Bringing us closer to nature.

Our activity days include many experiences such as fire lighting, foraging, shelter building, care farming and bushcraft. We work with a wide range of client groups to improve team working, self-esteem, confidence and life-skills. Our experienced team members tailor each session to the needs of the individual client group using the wide range of resources available with access to a private 50 acre

site on Mersea Island. We have recently acquired a community allotment on the Irvine Road Allotment Site with wheelchair access suitable for all abilities to get some fresh air and exercise. We offer a walk and talk to discuss local wildlife and litter pick as we go round to help the environment and community. We are particularly passionate about increasing access to the outdoors for disadvantaged or disabled young people and adults.

The most valuable wildlife feature you can add to a garden isn’t a feeder or a birdhouse — it’s water. 💧

From dragonflies and frogs to native bees, songbirds, and even bats, countless species depend on reliable water sources, yet most gardens provide very little. The good news? Creating a wildlife-friendly water feature can be as simple or as elaborate as you like.

🌿 Great options include:
• In-ground ponds with gently sloping stone edges for frogs, toads, and birds.
• Galvanized tubs or watertight containers filled with aquatic plants and pebbles.
• Half wine barrels that provide habitat for dragonflies and small frog populations.
• Downspout-fed gravel basins that create moving water attractive to many bird species.
• Shallow glazed bowls with stones for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
• Repurposed sinks or garden basins that can support newts and aquatic life.

A few simple rules make all the difference: avoid chemicals near the water, allow a little algae to remain as part of the ecosystem, and refresh standing water regularly unless aquatic plants are maintaining water quality naturally.

No matter the size of your garden or your budget, even a small container of water can provide far more value to wildlife than an empty flower bed. Sometimes the simplest addition creates the biggest impact. 🌱🐸🐝🦋

A busy Monday at Yarra Farm working with the ladies & gents from Rotary Club on the memorial garden.
Fun in the sun was had by the child minders with the little ones and our dedicated volunteers tended to the plants & veggies without fail, whilst Rob Mann dug in the frame for the bug house 💚🌞🐞🐝🪲🌸

Most people were never taught this stuff.
How to grow food. Build soil. Save seeds.

Rely less on systems that keep getting more expensive.

So there’s no judgement here.
No gatekeeping. Just learning together 🌿

Because in a world designed to keep people dependent…

Learning how to grow food, learn skills and rely less on broken systems…

still matters 🌱

A beautiful Saturday at Yarra Farm 🌞
The sun was high in the sky today warming the earth and filling the air with the scent of dry soil and growing plants. We began with much needed watering, planting out and mowing the grass.
Despite the heat this week our vegetables seemed to be doing well - tomatoes have started to grow, beans beginning to climb the netting, strawberries forming, huge spring onions ready to be pulled and runner beans thriving. Many thanks to the watering efforts of all of our volunteers throughout the week 💚
Our lovely Leonie Greene picked some veggies and rustled up the tastiest beans stew for lunch 😋
