Last week we had a brilliant day rounding off the Year 4 Roman Cup Finals.
In total, we had 18 teams, 180 matches and a full day of energy, effort and some seriously impressive squash.
For many of these players, it’s still early days in their squash journey, which is exactly what makes it so enjoyable to watch. You see confidence building, teammates supporting one another and players beginning to understand how to compete as well as how to play.
After the first round, teams were split into three groups, competing for winner and runner-up titles across each:
Gold
🥇 Lawford 1
🥈 Lawford 2
Silver
🥇 Hamilton
🥈 Myland
Bronze
🥇 Tendring
🥈 Layer de la Haye 2
We also had some well deserved individual awards on the day:
Most Improved Girl: Sophie, Baynards
Most Improved Boy: Leo, Layer de la Haye
Best Girl: Lizzie, Colchester High
Best Boy: Bastian, Lawford
Sportsmanship Awards:
Harley, Stanway
Ava, Hazelmere
Albie, Ardleigh
Finley, Langham
What always stands out with the Roman Cup is that it goes beyond results. It’s about giving young players a positive introduction to competition, encouraging them to push themselves and most importantly, enjoy it.
If this year is anything to go by, we’ve definitely got some future players to watch… and probably a few parents about to spend a lot more time at the squash courts too!
Well done to everyone involved and a big thank you to Councillor Martin Goss for presenting the prizes and helping make the day feel that bit more special.👏
