ABF East Anglia

ABF East Anglia The official page of ABF East Anglia. Our support is wholly unrestricted by age, conflict or cause and, as long as the need is justified, we will help.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity was established in 1944 to give enduring support to soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of genuine need. The help we give is as accessible to our veteran community as it is to those who find themselves in need following more recent conflicts. In addition, on behalf of the wider Army Family, we financially support other military and non-military charities.

The Merville Mile continues… Volunteers from 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team and Colchester Garrison, led by 16 Medical Regiment, are now over halfway through a brutal endurance test for the Army Benevolent Fund.

For 12 hours, they’re running 1.1‑mile laps every 20 minutes — battling fatigue, weather, and the clock.

If anyone’s still standing after 11 hours 40 minutes, it all comes down to one final lap.
A sprint.
Winner takes all.

Courage in motion — supporting soldiers and families when it matters most.

They’re off! 🏃‍♂️

Across 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team and Colchester Garrison, volunteers led by 16 Medical Regiment are taking on a challenge today built to push the limits of human endurance — all for the Army Benevolent Fund.

For 12 relentless hours, they’ll run 1.1‑mile laps every 20 minutes, fighting fatigue, weather, and the clock.

And if anyone is still standing after 11 hours 40 minutes?
It ends with a single lap.
A sprint.
Winner takes all.

This is courage in motion — supporting soldiers and families when it matters most.

Today, at the National Memorial Arboretum, a national commemoration marks 15 years since the Iraq War. We pause to honour all who served, and to remember the 179 British Armed Forces personnel who lost their lives, the 6,000 who were injured, their families, and the bereaved. Our Engagement Manager for East Anglia Army Benevolent Fund, Simon, served on several operational tours in Iraq, making today especially meaningful.

As the Army’s national charity, we remember those killed in action and recognise the lasting impact the Iraq War has had on many veterans — particularly those who were injured in service — and on their families.
