The WIGs (WI Girls) are a growing branch of the Women's Institute based in Colchester, Essex. We're out to celebrate what it means to be a woman in the modern world. With around 80 members from a mixture of ages (everyone welcome, from 18+) and backgrounds, we pride ourselves on being an all-encompassing group of women who are driven by a common interest - a desire to learn new things, discover ne
w interests and share our experiences with like-minded people. It's about being ourselves, while learning and growing from our adventures together. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm (WIGs o'clock!); in the Tollgate Hall, Stanway, CO3 0RH. Alongside our main meeting we have regular social events and several monthly subgroups (members only) including; Craft Club, Cake Club, Ladies Who Lunch, Walking Group, Knit & Stitch, Let's Listen and Read, Supper Club, Out & About and Sunday Social. Our main meetings cover a wide range of topics. Recent subjects have included; a willow weaving workshop, a talk by a Great British Bake Off contestant and a talk by a forensic scientist to name a few. Membership for 2026 (April 2026-April 2027) is £54. We welcome non-members and visitors to attend one monthly meeting to find out more about us before you commit to membership. We don't make a charge for this meeting but as a registered charity we would welcome donations towards our running costs. Non-members are unable to participate in subgroups or receive the WI Life or Essex News magazines.
