How many of the rare heath fritillaries can you count in the second photo? 🦋

Last Friday, 335 individuals were counted at Pound Wood nature reserve - the highest total yet for this reserve!

The rare heath fritillary was on the brink of extinction in the 1970s, but conservation action turned its fortunes around. It is still confined to a small number of sites in the south of England, however.

Let us know if you spot one.

Photo of the week time, and we had to choose this gorgeous photo of kestrel chicks taken by Ursula Armstrong last week. 💛

Kestrels nest in holes in trees, old buildings and abandoned crows' nests, laying between four and five eggs. When they hatch, both parents help to feed the young chicks.
