Did you know The OutHouse is a Hate Incident Reporting Centre? We can help guide you through the reporting process.
If you witness, or are targeted yourself, by a hate incident, it's really important to report it - not only so you can get any support you might need, but also to help make sure the figures reflect what's really going on. This ultimately means hate crime prevention receives more investment and funding, hopefully reducing it in the long run.
Even if it's something where you don't have many details (like someone shouting abuse from a car), by reporting it you might be helping to build a better picture of an ongoing problem - for example, if you can report the car make and colour, someone else may have reported part of the registration plate.
❓️ What is hate crime?
Hate crime can be:
- damage to property e.g. your house or car
- arson or fire
- threat of, or actual, attacks or violence (physical - including abusive gestures - or verbal)
- name calling
- graffiti or writing
- abusive or intimidating behaviour in person, by telephone, email, online or social media
- offensive letters, leaflets or posters
- inciting others to commit hate crime
A Hate Crime or Incident is any behaviour that someone thinks was caused by hatred of someone's identity:
- disability
- sexual orientation or gender identity
- religion or belief
- race, ethnicity or nationality
It's great if you're comfortable to report with your details (so things can be followed up fully) but a Hate Incident Report can also be made anonymously.
